You can ignore the commentary and just go straight to the footage.

To summarize, there are two videos. One is of a black pastor who says he was pulled over by a cop for him turning without signalling (true). In his initial account of the interaction, he says the cop asked him if he had drugs, who's car it was, why he was in the neighbourhood. Problem is, the cop didn't say any of that, this is a complete fabrication. The cop simply pulled him over, got his license and registration, told him he needed to register his new vehicle at the DMV, then let him go.

The second video the lady claims that the office pulled her over for doing a 70 in a 65. Problem here is that she was doing 70 in a 55, and when she talks to the officer she clearly states that she doesn't know what the speed limit on that stretch of road is because she hadn't seen any signs up. In her video she continuously alludes to some racism but the officer was polite and just gave her a ticket.

Now these are just two cases but I think it illustrates that it's important not to just take people's sides because they are minorities or the other person is a police officer. Unfortunately it seems that anyone who is 'oppressed' is now assumed to be honest and anyone who is an 'oppressor' is now assumed to be dishonest.

This is why I am for dash cameras and body cams. Its becoming common place.

I've been saved by my recorder a few times from bullshit complaints.

Just make sure the body cams stay on for ALL interactions... and we should be good

even if the cop did everything they claimed he did people like you would still take his side. do you think the video creator would have made a video of that? doubt it. completely pointless thread

Cameras aint just for the public's safety.

Too many hysterical mitch's and bitch's out there to keep moving like its 1999.

Worst thing to happen to the profession, that's a very short sighted and small benefit. But that's how they are sold to the line level.

Police body cams is a great idea. Many will be exposed on both sides.
Pastor/activist is a real dirt bag. He is an influencer in his community. He is the racist in this situation.

More like community agitator.

Please explain? I see some drawbacks, it allows much more Monday morning quarterbacking, does not capture entirety of what the officer sees and the like, but most the time I see the benefits our weighing the downside.

Cops will lie when it is in their interest to do so. You know who else will? Everyone else. Bodycams are needed to protect both citizen and cop. Of course they're not perfect and I imagine it would be a logistical nightmare and very expensive to equip all police departments with them, but I think that they're needed.

This is interesting, why do think cameras are a negative to policing?

The only argument I can think of, is that if one bad incident is caught on tape, it reflects on the entire Police department and makes people less trustworthy of all cops.

Overall, I think it's positive, but I can see there being issues with isolated incidents being unfairly perceived as a widespread problem, thanks to the viral video world we live in.

There is also videos that show racial profiling.

The funny part is I’ve been pulled over and asked those same questions.

It has nothing to do with race.

100% cop body and dash cams running is good for the cops doing their job correctly, and the people when police abuse their power

No one should be against their use in the slightest

Stanford University did research back in 2017 into traffic stops and found that both Black and Latinos were more likely to be pulled over and required far less suspicion to search them than their white counterparts.

Could it be because they’re in neighborhoods with more crime?

No, that couldn’t be it...

Body cams are the best thing to happen to police in a long long time. It can exonerate those innocent of wrongdoing and root out those guilty.
