Blood Feud: Wanderlei vs Rampage!

Yeah by the 3rd fight Rampage got the edge but even then I don’t think it was by that much. If I remember correctly Wanderlei was still a slight favorite going on.

But like everyone said his chin was shot. Also agree that Wanderlei won when it mattered.

The 4th fight was practically a friendly sparring. Their feud already ended and they were buddies by then.
I wouldnt call it friendly sparring. I think that they just gave what they had left. It was nice for them to be friendly after though. People who werent around back then cant understand how amazing it was for them to smile and laugh at each other.

great post hhj

by the way (since I was thinking about him today) hope FrankieNYC is resting in peace

The only real fight wanderlei had in Pride was against crazy horse

I liked both fighters, but IMO Wandi won both times through their primes.
Rampage beat Wandi after Wandi's clear decline.

but those were the days!!!

While remembering the old times,it just hit me that Page had an albino son. He was a little kid last time i seen em,so i looked it up and hes all grown

Awesome fights but horrible stand up in the first fight. Changed the outcome although Rampage was badly gassed.

Rampage always complained but really by Pride standards I don't think it was, Rampage had been holding Silva down for a good while before that and the ref was calling for action.

When they get stood up the big shift that doesnt get commented on much is that Silva lands two big hooks on Rampage just after the first lot of kicks and knees, those shots land plum on the chin and I think thats what really hurt Jackson and Silva just pilled on afterwards to finish him off.

Rampage was amazining at taking big shots but not looking badly rocked, the Randleman fight for example he revealed he was actually in serious trouble from one of Kevs punches but it hid it well.

Lets look at this shit. 2003 buddeh!
There has been alot of buzz about this fight, and after Page defeated Kevin Randleman, the two confronted each other in the ring and had to be seperated.

First Fight: November 9, 2003

The two men fought in the finals of the LHW tourney. Rampage dispatched Chuck Liddel byt TKO and Wanderlei defeated Yoshida via decision, then they faced off w each other.

Result: Page goes a TD,Wand wraps him in a guillotine. They end up on the ground and Page is in Wand's guard but only doing minimal damage. Fight is stood back up. Rampage just did not have an answer for the Thai clinch and took way too much damage. Probably tired from first fight.

TKO for Wanderlei Silva @ 6:28 of R1

Second Fight: October 31, 2004

Since their first fight Page defeated Minowa and Arona,Wanderlei defeating Minowa (poor bastard) and Yuki Kondo. After the Kondo fight, the two had a face off. Rampage looks fat two months before their scheduled bout.Page also finds religion somehow in the period between this meeting and the fight and apparently fasts before the fight.

Result: Wanderlei hyper aggressive in the beggining of the bout, hurts page, but page is able to take the fight to the ground, and much of the rest of the round is spent in Wanderlei's guard but Wanderlei is able to defend well, and Page does not do much damage. Eventually the fight gets back on the feet, and Page drops Wanderlei and tries to land knees, but the round ends. Wanderlei walks back to the corner looking ok. Round 2 Page is visibly tired,Wanderlei hanging back and throwing leg kicks, and Wanderlei shatters his nose with a big right hand and then successfully kills Rampage with knees like the first fight, but this time page sails through the ropes.

KO for Wanderlei Silva @ 3:26 of round 2

Third Fight: December 27, 2008

Both fighters are in the UFC,and are somewhat diminished at this point. Wanderlei just not the same after suffering back to back KO's to Mirko Crocop and Dan Henderson. Rampage just off his title loss to Forrest Griffin. Wanderlei had come to the UFC and lost to Chuck Lidell, but bounced back with a quick KO win over Keith Jardine.

Result: Wanderlei was having success with leg kicks from range, but when trying to close in with a berserker charge,Page shells up and lands an almost identical hook as the one he ko'd Lidell with, but with the left this time.

KO for Rampage Jackson @ 3:21 of round 1

Fourth Fight: September 29, 2018

10 years since their third fight, both fighters probably should have been retired by this point. When in their primes, both fighters looked to be around the same size, but here they fought at HW. Wanderlei weighed in at 226 lbs and Rampage came in at a whopping 254 lbs. Also Wanderlei's chin is shot, and Page's is still holding up.

Result: Both guys are slow. Wanderlei is faster and in better shape. Lands good hits on page, but just doesnt have the same snap in his punches. Page seems to just waiting and clinching. In the 2nd things get fun as the two bite down on the mouthpieces and just start rock and sockem robots on each other.
Suddenly Page lands a combination that stuns Wanderlei. Wanderlei's punching coming much slower, and Page got Wanderlei's timing down and drops him and finished with GNP. Despite this Wanderlei was thankfully not hurt that bad. A break from the total violence of the other three endings.

TKO for Rampage Jackson @ 4:32 of round 2

Summary: Wanderlei won when it mattered, but with age,Page still retained chin and punching power. After the fourth fight, the two guys embraced after it was over and Wanderlei joked that they should fight a 5th fight.

I just wanted to take a trip down memory lane with these two legends, and provide context for those who might not have been around back then. GOAT Rivalry

Very well done, I appreciate the time and effort you put into this. Love this legendary rivalry between the two. It's epic to say the least.

Wanderlei will always be the winner of this feud because his two wins happened when both guys were closest to their primes.

You can argue that Rampage was at his peak 2-3 years later and Wand was in his ultimate prime, but by the time of the 3rd and 4th fights Wand was obviously shopworn.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it was awesome for Rampage to wipe the floor with Wanderlei twice regardless. But the two bouts Rampage won were throwaway fights.

When it REALLY mattered - Pride GP and Pride MW title on the line - Wanderlei was victorious.

Yeah he really doesn't look as hurt as he aught to be. Even in the finish of the first Wand fight.

Really when did Rampage ever get properly knocked down? not often beside Wanderlei KOing him the second time, I think there was a knockdown against Glover that was kind of off balance? besides that maybe all the way to Fedor?

Insane durability

Insane durability

Although I think thats why the Chute Boxe fighters were such tough matchups for him, very good at exploiting someone being hurt but not going down.

The first thought that comes to mind when I started reading the opening past is......why did Rampage have to beat Chuck in the semi of the 2003 GP?? We could've had Wand vs Chuck in Pride.
