how do u guys think a bloody fight like penn stevenson on network tv would affect the ufc? Personally i think it would be bad in pretty much every way...casuals might be grossed out.....and skeptics and critics would have more ammo for their arguements. I think the best possible outcome would be a slick submission.....thoughts?

Look up Joe Theisman's leg break on Monday Night Football for your answer.

They showed slo-mo replays of that about 900 times that night!

For those who don't know what I'm talking about . . .

Casual mma fans being grossed out? WHUT? They aren't known as just bleed fans for no reason.

People who already have a low opinion on the UFC would continue to have one, while those who are open to it would likely have their interest piqued if only for a moment.

it'll be fine i'm sure people know when they watch fighting that there may be some blood

It's the UFC.

Fox didn't sign them without fully knowing that MMA can be a violent sport. Anything can happen in a fight and it won't affect their image at all.

It would put the casuals off. Most people flipping through the channels and landing on a UFC show are hoping to get a strong display of intricate groundwork that goes to a well earned decision.

the fake gore they show on bones > than any real blood from a UFC fight.

I think a "slick submission" would just confuse "casuals" and possibly have them scratching their heads at what they were watching. I don't think most people who aren't already fans, would understand the intricacies of a great submission. While I'm not sure another Penn vs Diego style beat down, and all the blood it produced, would be an entirely good thing for MMA in the mass market, I do believe a good standup battle would be more understandable to novice watchers and possibly win over more fans. You make a really good point though...
