Crime blocking public roads is a riot, not a peaceful protest

I think some of the critiques of the police and the reforms suggested are legitimate and should be seriously considered but sure its almost certainly the case that even a realistically radical program for police reform would fall short of the expectations of many of the protesters. However it should still be done for a few reasons. One is because its the right thing to do and there is something seriously wrong with American policing(though generalizations have serious limitations since policing is so localized here). And the other reason is that if you did enact a feasible yet radical program for police reform it would probably satisfy many of the protesters and the mainstream mass that sympathize with them which would weakened the position of the radical activists both on the ground in terms of there being fewer protesters and their argument in the eyes of mainstream society.
neville chamberlain, is that you?

How did it help in the 60s?

This fucking guy and his "its the same as the 60's" schtick.

If any of you actually cared, you would go to their website and see for yourselves. A quick Google search would get you all the answers you needed to know.
How you guys are still asking "Why are they protesting?" shows you have your ears closed and don't give a shit.

You're asking a bunch of pointless questions.
How about, why are we still having to address civil rights issues in 2020? Why haven't there been any meaningful reforms on how policing works? Why does America have the highest number of incarcerated people in the world?
But you guys are more worried about blocked freeways and toddlers holding up signs with bad language.

There is not one way to protest. And this protest doesn't have central leadership like the Civil Rights protests did.
MLK and Malcolm X didn't agree with one another. And MLK got beat and jailed for peaceful protests, and ended up getting assassinated.
I think MLK would be more concerned about the continued need for protests in 2020, and not about a blocked public road.

but you are the one who brought up the civil rights protests. And as you are saying now, this movement does not have central leadership. So without central leadership, their goals are disorganized and sometimes may even conflict with each other.

That is why posters like me ask these kind of questions, because when we see people who are stupid enough to be shooting each other (trying to shoot a moving car), we raise concern and don't automatically equate the situation to the civil rights movement.

I do believe we should end police brutality. But is defunding them the answer? I do not believe so, but this thread isn't about defunding police, it is about blocking public roads.

So again, when I see these types of protests, blocking the street, shooting at each other, I have to question if these people actually have specific goals... or if they are just generally discontent and throwing a tantrum, jumping on the bandwagon. I mean, are these the same type that are like omg amazon and apple bad, just get rid of them and our problems as a global society are solved? It is very short sighted thinking, just like shooting at a moving car with groups of people on the other side of the car, is a good idea.... or blocking a public road is a good idea to begin with.

edit: I also don't know what bringing up the relationship between X and MLK, or that MLK was assassinated has to do with the way they protested and the effectiveness of it, along with having clear goals.

I get that you are new around here. But jesus do you have some rose tinted glasses. There were mass riots in the inner cities in the 60s. And the peaceful protesters, much like today, were beaten, arrested, and shot with hoses. The civil rights movement was not one big sit in where people calmly discussed their feelings. It was bloody, people died. It was filled with civil disobedience and law breaking. And it was filled with people like the TS and others in here calling them communists, anarchists, other racial things I will not repeat, and criminals.

Im not new....I’m AlexDB9. Here in quarantine for a couple weeks and came back on a trial period

The peaceful protests were what changed minds. Like I just explained to you....those protest were organized and everyone had a common goal. Seeing people in suits get beat for no reason changed minds. Seeing rioters burn and loot doesn’t change anything and hurts your cause. Guess which one we are seeing today?

There are no resources “wasted” on cops. The country operates on law and order and we need people to enforce the laws and protect citizens. Of course there’s bad actors who don’t deserve to wear the badge but we can all condemn them together. Vague and unrealistic stipulations laid out by people who hate authority and accountability is not the way.

Is our justice system perfect? No. But it’s still the best one the world has ever seen. I have no problem working on ways to fix it but you do not allow terrorists like a BLM to have any part of it. They are a violent and racist hate group and they should be condemned just like the KKK is. We do not change laws under threat of violence. That’s an extremely dangerous precedent to set.

There are resources wasted on cops if they are not the correct tool for the problem that we are trying to fix.
You are operating under the wrong assumption that most people eare literally calling for NO POLICE. As if anarchy is what most people are looking for. It is not.
You are worried about stopping the protests/riots, and not addressing their cause. Address the cause and there won't be protests.

This is not about a "few bad apples". The problem with police has been here for decades. It is only getting the attention it now deserves because of technology/cameras. If we can agree that there is an issue and condemn it together, then why are we not actually DOING anything about it? Thoughts and prayers don't fix this.
That there have been "vague and unrealistic" stipulations by people that "hate authority" is untrue, Tucker Carlson nonsense. As if this is some actual, terroist, commie rally.
You haven't looked at the proposals if you're saying that they are vague and unrealistic.

We have "the best system in the WORLD? According to who? The best system in the world doesnt have 2 million people locked up in cages.
Just lol at comparing BLM to the KKK

...umm no again I’ve been a citizen for over a decade. I also love history and have a masters in it for shits and giggles (more cause I wanted to correct the communist propaganda I had to swallow) Maybe read up on the unrest in the 60s so you are a little more informed?

I guess Ted Wheeler got mad they embarrassed him the night before. Portland police looks like they not fuckiing around anymore. Just like in Seattle, it took the "protesters" coming after them that got the local politicians to do something about it.

These kids are bored, that's why they're doing it. They're doing this because it's a trend, because it's the coolest thing of the summer, it's the way to get the most possible social media clout possible and perhaps most importantly because these are the largest social gatherings they are able to attend in most cities due to the pandemic. Weak parenting, a decadent dysfunctional culture and terrible political leadership at all levels have contributed to this.

Blocking the road is an extremely aggressive act. That's why popo does it when there is a manhunt for a dangerous criminal or someone who escaped prison or whatever. These little shits are impeding the movement of citizens, at threat of violence, and all for what? To abolish the cops? For "black trans lives"? No, it's to keep the party going and keep uploading the pics of the "protests" to Instagram and receiving the validation. It's so sad to me.....the only thing that gives me hope is that my 20 year old and my 15 year old are nothing like these shitheads.

Its true that we've yet to see any real reform that would address any of the grievances of the protesters but I think there is some truth to what that guy said(even though he's a dishonest partisan overall).

Back then protest movements were more organized because it was harder to organize mass scale civil disobedience so the leaders of those movements had to do a lot of legwork to organize their protests and work with community level organizations like churches and student associations and community level activists and stuff. So by the time people are on the street in large numbers they're well organized and disciplined and have goals in mind. But BLM is a mess because of how easy it is to get people on the street. Just post the time and place on Facebook and you'll a crowd there guaranteed but its not a crowd that has had much experience organizing together before hand hence why when you go to some of these left wing protests and ask protesters what their demands are you get a different set of demands from every protester.

So while serious reform could help quell the protests there's no guarantee they'd stop, they could easily chug along since its impossible to fulfill every idiosyncratic demand of the protesters. For instance many of them cite specific cases of civilians being killed by cops and its almost certainly the case that some of these cases, which crop up like every other week, are actually legitimate shootings by police. What then?

My biggest problem with BLM is its complete lack of organization, and that not having any kind of central leadership makes the type of clusterfuck that we're witnessing now.

It's true that not all people are going to be satisfied , but we have to start somewhere. Nothing changes at all if we don't address some of the most basic stuff here.
And you got a whole lot of pissed off people here because these are problems that people have been talking about for years, and even now we still have people not taking these issues seriously. It's just fueling the anger and mob mentality.

Too often in America people bitch about the reaction to a problem, and not the problem itself.
A protester isnt going to care about a blocked road or a child being exposed to bad language when they're protesting against murder.
It would not have gotten to this point if there had been real attempts at addressing the issues when they have repeatedly come up over the years.

As long as people don't trust the police and the system, we are going to have people quick to react and call every shooting a result of racism. The system and police need to regain people's trust so that doesn't happen. This denial of the problem, and refusal to commit to any real reform just guarantees this stuff goes on.

Once you let these anarchist feel they’re above the law it only emboldens them and things only get worse.

what makes things even worse is when their behaviour is condoned by msm and left wing politicians.

Exactly right. This is precisely what is happening in Seattle

This is a thread about blocking roads
It is illegal to block the roads, if they want to protest that is fine but when they block the roads and put innocent people in danger they should expect there to be consequences. Most sidewalks leave them plenty of space to throw their temper tantrums.

Says the guys that justifies violence and destruction because demands haven't been met yet. Sorry, but this is not how democracy works, Lenin.

Inigo-Montoya-WORD-MEANS.jpg

I didn't justify violence or destruction.
But it is a likely outcome when you don't address a people's problem when they repeatedly have peacefully petitioned you to do so.

It's like bitching about terrorist groups forming in the Middle East but ignoring that they formed because you bombed their villages. I am not justifying terrorism, but it is a likely outcome considering the circumstances.

BLM has excellent organization and leadership. This is is all playing out exactly how the Marxist leaders of BLM want it to. They have whipped up the mindless into a frenzy and they are destroying this country one city at a time. People are blindly following them under false pretenses.

So excellent that in the 7 years of its existence, they haven't been able to get any sort of police reform, despite there being multiple nationally covered shootings in that time, and that they formed when there was a Democrat, black president in office.
I wish the left was as organized as you people think we are.
