BLACKOUT: The Story of the Political Crusade to Keep UFC Off TV
    UFC - Ultimate Fighting Championship
    Published on May 23, 2019

"A political crusade to ban 'ultimate fighting' successfully pressured the US pay-per-view industry to stop airing UFC events, nearly extinguishing the new sport."

"Originally airing on UFC FIGHT PASS, UFC 25 Years in Short is a 25-part documentary series celebrating the UFC silver anniversary. This compilation of short films presents 25 captivating UFC stories, one for each year of existence, and every piece stands alone as an independent feature. Viewed as a whole, these films form a larger, mosaic narrative of the UFC’s amazing evolution, fascinating characters and lasting influence."

Similar to the other promotions of the day like Battlecade.

Those guys had weight classes, moreless, and went to gloves.

At a time that many thought BJJ was almost the only way to win, the Maurice Smith / Conan fight was memorable.

It was more his wife, who inherited Hensley & Co., one of the largest Anheuser-Busch beer distributors in the United States.

Why would a beer distributor be opposed to the UFC?

They had distribution deals with boxing at the time and MMA was seen as a competitor. Amazingly, once her company struck some deals with MMA, McCain no longer thought MMA was human cock fighting.

    Its always about money.

No, McCain just wanted everyones moral ethics to be his. He even tried banned video games. Not going with a rating but just straight up banning.

umm, I don't get this explanation at all. Why does it matter if they had distribution deals with boxing. MMA isn't in competition with their beer sales. If anything MMA getting popular would be another great business to target for their beers.
