Social Black Panther (War Room Discussion)

Here's some evidence that giving a bad review to Black Panther would get you labelled a racist.

You can apologize to me now Nac.

You don't seem to understand how basic adult interactions work. You made a claim, and I asked you for an example. That's the normal response when somebody makes a claim.

Then you gave non-examples, which was confusing, because you seemed to think they were examples. Then you acknowledged you did not have any examples. So I said that there's likely people saying just about anything on the internet somewhere, but you should have some examples for something before you go around saying it.

Where did you get the impression that anything there warrants an apology? People do not apologize after asking if you have examples of something you're claiming.

Also, I don't even understand what that Tweet is. Is it referring to an online review with a comment section or something?

You just need to be more patient next time. And not so bitter.

You still have not shown any examples. You posted a tweet from a guy talking about people who “destroyed” a critic review. I am asking for examples of what you claimed.

I was expecting you to post a bunch of examples right away, I just wanted to see what you were talking about. There are examples of pretty much anything on the Internet, which we all know. There are thousands of people on the Internet we think the world is flat, and you are one of them, if I am not mistaken. Those opinions are not hard to find at all, examples are abundant. So I incorrectly assumed you would not have so much trouble supporting your claim with examples.

Seriously, after white identity in North America culminated in the electing of the single most incompetent and embarrassing figure in American political history, you all can shut the fuck up about black people being happy to finally feel represented in popular culture instead of being portrayed as criminals, derelicts, and lust-crazed tropes.
The irony of a Bernie supporter saying "white pride is why Trump was elected", after Bernie packed stadiums like Trump (with mostly white people) while talking about 'fighting the establishment', spoke of taking care of our nation first above ruining others with bombs, rallied a nation behind a populist message and then got rigged and stolen from and did nothing. Trump won because he got the Obama and Bernie voters in key states, not because of white pride, and because he stood up to election fraud. Bernie's biggest election fraud advocate was actually Trump, as Bernie cowered and did nothing, was either playing politics or was leveraged and strong armed via his wife's issues.

Sounds like you watch too much TYT or MSNBC. Id recommend migrating over to Jimmy Dore or Tim Pool, progressives that keep it real, drop the identity politics shtick, follow the money and stick with the issues (like how to prevent election fraud and not white vs black divisive bs). If the 'racism, sexism, misogynist, ableist, xenophobe, Orange man bad' shtick keeps up, Trump will 100% win again.

Jimmy dore and Tim pool are great. Also Abby Martin and Kyle kulinski have good moments

Do you have an example of this occurring?
People did freak out when the first person gave it a negative review on Rottentomatoes. But really, to think this is a "%100" movie is a little disingenuous.

Movie was semi good up until the ending. Why the hell would you do an all CGI fist fight between the two characters?? You could've done some beautiful fight choreography on a practical set and drive the emotional climax home. The end just took me out of the movie. I have no problem with the technical Oscars it was nominated for, but this was no Best Picture contender. Not even close.

The politicization of the movie turns me off to it as well. People being afraid to write bad reviews, other people asking white people to not go see it opening weekend, white kids wearing Black Panther costume for Halloween is cultural appropriation, etc. Good God, fuck all that.

Black panther is a top 5 Marvel movie but not 1 or 2. It’s behind Infinity Wars and Thor Ragnorak. Somewhere in top 5 with Winter Soldier, Guardians and Into the Spideverse.

Yall are discussing this damn movie more than most hip hop forums are.

That tells me yall are the ones doing the overrating.

I don't like super hero movies. But as far as super hero movies go, it was one of the better ones. Not a movie that should have exclusively positive reviews of course. But I'm also not emotionally involved in the it the way this forum seems to be.

I'm sure there are people out there with all types of opinions. I just thought Rip would have some examples. Not sure why I assumed that. I get this impression that guys on the forum scavenge the internet for things that bother them. Or at the very least, they go to political sites that scavenge the internet for them, and put it all in one spot for them to rage over.

You are skipping the obsession that some "conservative" people seem to have with it, which is the population of this forum. The politicization was not just from black people, obviously. I don't understand any of it to be honest. The obsession from both sides was bizarre. This forum tends towards the side you ignored though. I see that a lot on this forum, and I'm sure you do too.

My only question regarding BP is;

How in the wild blue fuck was the fight between Blade, The Cat from Red Dwarf in Blade 2 looked better than the fight at the end of BP?

The lessons learned from the Blade series need to be put into action in every MCU movie.

If they are going to CGI a hand to hand combat scene then they need to incorporate the real thing in it as well.

How do you give us that fire ass fight scene in Korea but end the movie with a watercolor painting?

Other than that it was a solid action flick.

I don't know about being labelled a racist for leaving a bad review, personally I never saw that (although I never really looked into it).

But I will say that there seemed to be a heightened protectionism around the movie, as was evident by the huge backlash when someone finally gave it a bad review and ruined it's 100% fresh rating on RT.
To be fair, I thought the negative review was for dumb reasons, but everyone is entitled to their opinions and I can't remember seeing such a big backlash over a negative review of a superhero movie.

I think we definitely saw Black Panther (which I loved) be elevated into a stratosphere of filmmaking that it had no business in, just like Wonder Woman, as neither should have gotten a Best Picture nomination.

Yeah, see this all makes sense to me. I find that pretty easy to believe, and you stated it in a measured way. You can make the argument that you think it was overrated for political reasons, and you could probably support that pretty well.

The irritating thing about this forum is that a lot of guys take a decent point and they exaggerate it to the point where they are just as bad or worse than the people they are trying to criticize.

The existence of a good, but not great, movie being nominated for Best Picture is also not a rarity. I just watched the Queen movie the other day, and I did not think it was an Oscar-level movie at all. The script was pretty lame to be honest, and it only had one good acting performance. But nobody seems upset about that one being nominated for Best Picture.

I agree, I think people's love of Queen and Freddie Mercury overrated a decent movie into a Best Picture nomination. Great performance by the Rami but just decent movie. I've seen a lot of (what I feel to be) mediocre movies nominated and even win - I thought Shape of Water was a B-level movie at best.

But what was unprecedented (as far as I can remember, anyway) before Wonder Woman and Black Panther was seeing superhero comic book movies nominated for Best Picture.

And when you look at our modern obsession with diversity, and the fact that the Academy ignored a ton of wildly popular comic book movies for decades... it's hard not to raise an eyebrow when a female and African American director get their comic book movies nominated for Best Picture.

Yeah I can see that. Honestly, my girlfriend and I both thought Wonder Woman sucked. We are not the best ones to ask because we are not really into the super hero movies, but compared to what we've seen, it was not very good. We both thought Black Panther was better than Wonder Woman (which we were making fun of by the half-way mark). But neither is something I'd typically consider Best Picture. But then again, when you throw Bohemian Rhapsody into the mix, suddenly Black Panther actually starts to fit in with the other nominees.

I thought A Star is Born and Roma were both way better movies than Black Panther and Bohemian Rhapsody. I haven't seen Green Book or any of the other movies yet.

Black panther was good not great
End thread

There are better marvel movies
All the Batman movies were better (recent ones)

However black panther came out in a year of garbage movies so I can see the awards

White people "have to find pride" in a 74 year-old man-child with the sensitivity of a pre-pubescent school girl, the temperament of a newborn, and the intellect of a toddler. Also, shitty country music.

I think it coming out so close to the best Marvel movie ever didn't help it. It's a very solid origins movie and better than Cap and Thor's, IMO.

CGI let it down, but I assume they didn't want to burden it with a huge budget with them not knowing how well it would be received.
I thought it was a great comic book movie and really enjoyed it, but it was nothing above and beyond. I liked Cap’s origin better and put it on par with Thor (it was way better than Thor 2).

Michael B. Jordan’s performance was ridiculously overrated—I just can’t buy into the hype behind this guy. Chadwick Boseman was much better, imo.
