Rotten Tomatoes Denounces Group Taking Aim at BLACK PANTHER Audience Score

Rotten Tomatoes has denounced a Facebook group attempting to flood its site with poor audience scores for Disney and Marvel Studios' upcoming superhero pic Black Panther.

The film, opening in theaters Feb. 16, is a bold move by Marvel and Disney in featuring a virtually all-black cast. The movie is generating keen interest, with one major tracking service predicting a $130 million-plus domestic debut. Other box-office observers believe that number could even climb to $150 million.

"We at Rotten Tomatoes are proud to have become a platform for passionate fans to debate and discuss entertainment and we take that responsibility seriously. While we respect our fans’ diverse opinions, we do not condone hate speech. Our team of security, network and social experts continue to closely monitor our platforms and any users who engage in such activities will be blocked from our site and their comments removed as quickly as possible," the company said in a statement issued Thursday.

The Facebook group goes by the name "Down with Disney's Treatment of Franchises and its Fanboys." In recent days, the group created the event, "Give Black Panther a Rotten Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes," that drew 3,700 participants. In December, the same group claimed it waged a campaign to flood Rotten Tomatoes with poor reviews of Disney and Lucasfilm's Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The group makes unsubstantiated claims that Disney somehow manipulated the press into creating negative buzz for Warner Bros.' DC movies, and says it is waging the Black Panther campaign in response.

Not long after Rotten Tomatoes issued its statement, the group's Facebook page was no longer available and appeared to have been deactivated. Facebook could not immediately be reached for comment. After the deadly white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in summer 2017, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg vowed to curb hate speech on his social media platform.

Eh private company they can do as they please but deleting reviews doesn't help the accusations of favoritism/pay4play against RT. Once you remove one review you can remove any. It's a catch-22 but I wouldn't mind a review site that's a complete free-for-all.

And on the other side there will be people looking to hate on it because it's got too many black people in it. I've already seen some comments on Facebook along the lines of "if it was an all white cast it'd br called racist" and "imagine a movie called white panther"..

I'm excited for this. I liked BP's portrayal in Civil War, but I want to see him fleshed out, to understand his motivations. I'm also interested to see how Wakanda is explained, being such a technological marvel around so many "shitholes". I know the people who built it were staunch isolationists, so I want to learn more about its origin. Will it be a big fuck you to globalism, or will they be shamed by social justice. Will they even explore the topic of closed borders? A lot of people don't want to politics in this, but having such an oasis in "shithole" central warrants some explanation.

The majority black cast is very appropriate here, considering the focus, but of course the usual soycucks, fearful of everything and ashamed of their own skin color, are the ones making this about race. I just want a good story with fleshed out characters, and some insight into Wakanda's origin.

BP comics explain all your questions. To sum it up. Its vibranium. Only they have it. Not only that but Wakanda sits atop a vast reserve of it. A reserve the size of a small country. Being a ridiculously pricey metal, they sell minute amounts of it globally raking in gigantic profits. They also send their youth abroad to study at prestigious schools who eventually return to the country. They are extremely isolationist (North Korea levels) and they've used that along with their vibranium access to their advantage.

In the Comics, they come across as utter bastards as well: there's one scene in which the Wakandans discuss revealing to the outside world they have discovered the cure for cancer, but decide the rest of the world isn't ready yet.

Just for that, I hope Thanos rapes, pillages and burns Wakanda.

Less syllables then typing out impoverished, third world, war-trodden etc... Much of Africa is a mess.

Those white nerds with the fear grimace (perfect description) are the types to make this potentially great story about race.

Didn't Black Panther destroy all their Vibranium in the comics, to make Wakanda less reliant on trade the outside world? I'm rusty on his comic arc.

Same amount of syllables as 3rd world, bruh.

From what I've seen, it's more the right that's making it about race and getting offended by what SJWs MIGHT say or what they think they will say.

Waiting for the post credit scene which reveals killmonger is really the human torch, ushering in the marvel/fox integration era.

Sounds about right. If I recall that involved Dr Doom infiltrating Wakanda to try to use vibranium for his own schemes and BP realizing in the end that Wakanda was too reliant on vibranium. I'd have to look it up to expound more though.

Lol...we can be sure the epicenter of Infinity War will be in Wakanda. Soul Stone is definitely there. So Thanos will likely wreck shop on Wakandan soil as soon as he finishes opening cans of whoop-ass on the NY crew (Ironman, Spidey, Strange etc)

I meant I would used a few more descriptions than 3rd world to describe the surrounding countries. "Shithole" condenses them all.

What do you mean "might say", they're already raving about this being the first black superhero movie (which is completely false) among other racially directed statements instead of letting the movie stand on its own. The fact the usual racists are doing their thing doesn't alter that.
