Marvel's BLACK PANTHER Tracking for Heroic $100M to $120M U.S. Debut

Ryan Coogler's Black Panther is tracking to open to a heroic $100 million-$120 million at the North American box office, according to early prerelease surveys.

Marvel Studios and Disney open the stand-alone superhero movie on Feb. 16, the beginning of the four-day Presidents' Day weekend.

Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa/Black Panther alongside Lupita Nyong'o, Michael B. Jordan, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker and Andy Serkis.

The movie is the 18th title in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's also the first tentpole of 2018.

If tracking is correct, Black Panther will come in ahead of stand-alone Marvel pic Doctor Strange, which posted a three-day debut of $85 million in November 2016. It would also be the biggest opening of 2018 to date.

That is a Ridiculous Number for February , then Again Deadpool Fox probably gave Marvel confidence that a Tent pole could work in February , not to mention people are hyped for infinity war and want all material related to it as well as it being Black History Month so it has that extra punch. The Machine Roles on.

Star Wars didn't bomb in China due to pandering, it just doesn't appeal to Chinese
The Force Awakens didn't do that good there either.
Rogue One had one of China's most famous actors in it and it didn't do anything special.

There is definitely some sacrificing of good character /story development in order to just shoehorn in a minority or female into films, but there are also just bad movies, and people looking to be offended.
After rewatching TLJ, i came away from it thinking less about any SJW messages, and more that it was structurally just not a good movie. There was a way to portray strong, believable women in that movie, and the writers failed...but they failed at a lot of other shit in that movie too.
But yea, i of course agree that character and story should come before pushing whatever agenda you have in a film
Rogue One is all fan service. The best part of the film was Vader chopping shit up, it was just epic lol. The movie overall wasn't that great though (the best of the three new films though) and being so reliant on pre existing knowledge, I can see why it did poorly in China. There's no history of Star Wars there. Rogue One never fleshed out its cast of characters either. They weren't memorable outside the Imperial droid. Jane Urso (sp?) is a hot lil thing, but she's incredibly bland. They had the makings of something special with their awesome cast, but I think they were too caught up in the fanservice instead of giving us developed characters. It should have been a great adventure mixed with tragedy, like Saving Private Ryan, or Band of Brothers.

The new trilogy is really disappointing and oozing PC politics. I think that's what turned off the Chinese market. Transformers and Fast and Furious kill it over there. THey are mindless movies, but the action is constant (I hate them). I think if they had a hotter Asian in Rose's roll, or just used her sister instead (she's delicious in Iron Fist) and had epic lightsaber battles, it would have done better over there.

That's a fine piece of Asian ass

I like this guy's take. Leia was such a great character in the OG trilogy. Not the typical cunty masculine portrayal of females we're inundating with today. I'm watching Agents of Shield and while I'm enjoying it, pretty much every woman acts like a man. Despite the extra focus on women in media today, it must be even harder growing up female.

Amped for it.

Boseman is an f’n boss of an actor.

Coogler and Jordan back together again make me that much more confident in it as well.

And people, myself included, loved Black Panther in Civil War.

From watching the trailer, I thought that Killmonger was going to be kind of weak. But after reading this interview, I'm stoked.

“I feel like Killmonger ... is very selfless," Jordan said. "I think he's always looked at the bigger picture, since he was really young. Which is why he's a great thinker, and a great strategist, because he's had time to look at the big picture and try to figure it out. And, to the best of his ability, I feel like he figured out. it makes sense to him.”

"IGN: What does Erik consider himself? If he had to describe himself, is he a leader, is he a hero, what is he?

Michael B. Jordan: Can I give a one-word answer? Can I ask if it's cool before I say it?

(At this point, Michael walks over to the unit publicist and whispers something to her. After a quick response he returns to the table.)

Michael B. Jordan: He's a revolutionary."

Please someone recast her already.

A little bit more added from the car chase scene. It shows how Shuri, T'Challa's sister, uses Wakandan technology to have her brother's back.

The clip previous just shows the BP suit change and jump on the car. This one takes place a few seconds prior to that, but sets the scene up a little better.

Lol Shuri's gonna be a fan favorite. This film is gonna be a banger.

<{nope}>

Jessica Henwick was in TFA, not TLJ. You’re thinking Veronica Ngo.

The premiere is tonight. Social media reactions will be allowed, so we should know what we're dealing with as far if it will be good.

Reading those tweets I have high hopes. Coogler, MBJ and Boseman are all great in other projects. It sounds like a definite winner.

Looking forward to see that movie.

Was very disappointed when Tyron "Black Fedor" Woodley wasn't attached to the project anymore.
