I hate the idea that "accusation = guilty" for any crime. This feeling increases as the severity of the accusation increases.

Case in point - Travis Browne. He was accused by his (ex)girlfriend of abusing her. If he did, he's a piece of shit. But if he did not, she's hurting every survivor of abuse by using their pain as means to attack someone. So if he did beat her.... wouldn't she go to the police? Or would she just skip that and go to Travis' employer.

Really misinformed comment. I don't think you understood what @BBMN was saying. All victims should speak out, that's never in question.

My interpretation of what he's saying is that it looks shady that she went to some who a) probably doesn't give a shit rather than people who enforce the law and b) makes it look like she's looking for a payout.

And his point was that accusations do not mean the person actually did what they were alleged to have done. People like him are not in fact the reason beaten spouses don't go to the police.

A much more common reason is that battered women don't want their husbands to go to jail, even thought the husband richly deserves it if he is beating her. They usually fear financial instability and the break up of their family. Not due process and appropriate skepticism.
