BJJ star Mackenzie Dern signs with Legacy FC

Dern has been hinting at making the transition to MMA for a little while now and has been training at The MMA Lab. Debut set for July 22.

For those who don't know who she is:

2015 ADCC gold medalist and multiple time IBJJF world champion.

I am not one to usually sit and drool over attractive women in MMA (because lets be honest, there really aren't that many) but Mackenzie is the exception. IMO she is the most attractive woman in BJJ/MMA since Gina Carano.

In MMA, 115 is the plan; though she is a very shapely woman so I don't know if 125 isn't better for her. In jiu-jitsu/grappling tournaments, usually 127-132 but she accepted a 145 fight against Rossie Snow at the submission only event, Fight to Win, in April.

IIRC Legacy don't have a 115 div, they have a 125 div where KGB is the champ

Good pickup, her grappling is great but she's gonna need alot of work on her striking.

Wouldnt expect a UFC move for atleast a year and if she cant make 115 then bellator 125 would be an option.

Not sure if they do or not but they dont need a champ or div really to do fights for her. Just get another 115 with 0 mma fights and build her up.

Mackenzie hasn't been training standup for that long but her footwork shows she learns quick (circling left by moving her left leg first). She does a good job returning her hands to their starting position after punching though her left is held too low, in my opinion. Overall, not bad biomechanics for a noob.

MACKENZIE DERN TO FACE KENIA ROSAS IN LEGACY DEBUT

World BJJ champion Mackenzie Dern has an her opponent for her Legacy MMA debut.

Rosas (4-2 ammy) will step up to face Dern at Legacy FC 58 on July 22 in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

The match will take place at 115 pounds.

Rosas most recent win was in April against Randee Morales. Fighting out of Team XTreme in Plainview, Texas, she is undefeated as an amateur kickboxer with a 6-0 record.

Dern has been spending her time at the MMA Lab prepping her striking for the fight under former UFC champion Benson Henderson and new striking coach Eddie Cha.

The bout will air live on AXS TV July 22.

Interesting for sure. She's obviously world class on the ground in pure grappling, but we'll see how she does with striking element thrown in.
