BJJ blackbelts in MMA

Only guy i can think of is GSP as much as j hate to admit it. I think he got his belt because of his stifling top control holding black belts down. He really should have been able to sub Hardy.

I think you're wrong on that. With the same argument you could say Werdum isn't legit because he couldn't submit Vinny with that arm bar...

To defend a super active guard as Condit has requires a l lot of skills in BJJ. Also GSP always passes the guard, has no problems at all if he's on his back (also Condit fight). In this forum BJJ is often seen as 'the art of lying on your back' and top control as wrestling. I think that's wrong because you don't have this positions (guard, mount, except backmount) in wrestling.

Royce is good, he didnt tap, but i could understand if someone is really rocked, but for a BB to grapple with a non BBJ fighter and get submitted by them proves his level of BBJ isnt as good as they claim....

There is no 'non BJJ fighter' in the top of the ufc right now.

One of the beauties of MMA: you can "set up" a submission with good striking or wrestling + gnp. Anyone can submit a BJJ black belt if the guy is dizzy.

Things don't work that way. Look at wrestling, Phil Davis was an NCAA champion, Rashad Evans was a middling wrestler but when it comes to MMA, Davis got out wrestled. Should he give back is NCAA title?

Same as boxing in K1. How many times did K1 bring in a pure boxer to fight a kick boxer? I think they always lost and the only exceptions came when MMA fighters went toe-to-toe with K1 fighters under K1 rules (Rampage, Kid Yamamoto and Overeem all won).

Joe Stevenson. Then again I think Drysdale gives out Black Belts on halloween. I got 2 of them from him last year

Threads like this always suck, because they mostly consists of non-grapplers trying to discredit atheletes' techical knowledge and skillsets based on their performance under pressure in an entirely different sport.

Also, they seem to be under the impression that either "BJJ Black Belt" means "Roger Fucking Gracie", or that this is 1993 and it should be a win button.

All black belts are not equal. That is the problem. Some people give them out too easily.

This is very true and also some dudes are one dimensional where they don't train their least fav. positions. Some guys are sogood or respected at their gym that nobody can mount them or they are used to esaping the mount with a nice sweep that is difficult to do when someone is raining down punches on their face. BJJ teaches great principles and skills but getting punching full force in the face while grappling is a bit of a different experience and can "equal out " skilled bjj.

BJJ blackbelts in MMA? not to sound rude, but I think some fighters self-proclaim themselves as blackbelts in BJJ. Vitor getting submitted a few times to fighter who don't even have a belt rank in BJJ, wagnney fabiano is another, which fighters with BJJ blackbelts do you have bad BJJ in MMA?

Vitor is a blackbelt under Carlson Gracie, stfu. Even the worst blackbelt under Carlson during those days was better than 90% of the other blackbelts down in Brazil. Being a blackbelt doesn't make you unable to be subbed... especially in MMA.

rolando delgado also. got his in a week

What do you have to base this on other than what Frank Mir and Junie Browning said on a REALITY TV SHOW?

The only confusion that exists is that Delgado received his blackbelt from a Gracie Barra blackbelt instead of a blackbelt from his team (Nova Uniao). Considering Delgado has produced a blackbelt world champion from his gym tells me a good bit about his skill.
