Man, the other day I was at the beach and I remembered when BJ trained by grabbing a heavy rock and running underwater with it. I tried it and I was extremely exasperated. I bet if he employs that training method while still gaining enough mass to fight at welterweight, then he has a great shot at beating Rory. I mean he already has really great cardio at welterweight. Thoughts?

He needs to do some of that Rickson beach dancing and gross deep tummy breathing too.

That rock training preceded him almost being beaten to death. I think his current training is probably optimal for him right now. Training with the Marinovich's would have probably required him to start taking peds to keep from overtraining. If he is going to train while remaining clean and living in Hawaii, then he is probably better served for this fight to have brought in the training partners he has and prepare to have a larger wrestler try to take him down and tire him out.

That seems similar to Wandy's hypoxic training where he'd run up & down the stairs of a high-rise building while breathing through a snorkel.

Hypoxic training helps you manage the buildup of lactic acid, which for fighters is crucial in the latter part of a round or the last couple of rounds of a fight. It would be a great way to improve your conditioning.

It may only be "an exercise" but I'm guessing you'd be feeling completely wrecked in almost no time... if you could manage to do a few of these exercises comfortably you would surely be a fit farker.

This assumes that he won't do it his way.

i think the last time bj did the rock thing he lost

it helped him out in the second GSP fight...

He needs to be properly motivated to train like that.

Thats what he did going into the worst butt whuppin he's ever received. So, no.
