News BJ Penn claims the gov murdered his mother an planted a clone

Definitely seems like an unhinged rant but I'd at least give him the benefit of the doubt and ask him what he meant by all that. It vaguely reminds me of a rant by Dan Quinn, former MMA fighter and stevia afficionado.
 
What’s really crazy about psychosis is you can’t just talk them out of it. If he fully believes his own mother was murdered by the government and replaced with a clone… There’s little to gain by reasoning with him in this state. He’ll have some crazy explanations on how ”they” could have done it and why it’s not only possible but probable that it happened.

Like many have said before BJ was a bit of a ”conspiracy nut” before.

The whole thing is ludicrous. I feel very bad for BJ if he is inside a full blown delusion right now someone needs to help the guy.

I think both you and @joy2day would agree also that the bar/street KO could have been severely physically traumatizing since it wasn't just a matter of taking naked punches and bouncing his head off the pavement, but doing so while drinking when the body's dehydrated and the fluid cushion around the brain would also (I think?) be less effective.

I feel like that incident alone could have caused more damage than even some of his worst MMA beatings.

That might be one of the multiple factors at play. I mean, he could just have died that night, but It may have instead induced some kind of fragility, it might be as much a psychiatric problem as a neurological problem.

But then yeah, you could argue that while this is all quite speculative, clearly he is not doing good at all, I hope this doesn't end tragically, I wouldn't want to be that woman now.


I mean she already has to cosplay as his mother, can you imagine that ?!

Yeah, you don't have to be psychotic to be a conspiracy nut, but anosognosis (say, from schizophrenia) is like heaven for paranoia, which can take absurd proportions.
Then, especially if you stay untreated, you can build extremely developed scenarios, some that can be so tight that, if you try to "talk him out" of it, you're just gonna become his n°1 persecutor lol.

One of my psych professors told me a story about some kind of intern/intro level work he was doing with a schizophrenic, back in the days where institutions looked like the 'madhouses' that were portrayed in the 70's. Real awful, like shit on the walls, or people strapped up in straight jackets, and yet the guy he was supposed to meet was dressed up nice with his hair combed and spoke very calmly.

The nature of the case was this guy was randomly attacking people on the street. The guy explained that he is dead. And usually dead people are bad, but he's a good dead person. And dead people can tell who the other dead people are, so he sees these bad dead people and tries to protect everyone. The more my professor was trying to talk to him, he was trying to come up with ideas to break the thought that he was dead, but none of it stuck.

"Do dead people need to eat?" "No." "Well we have these lunch times.." "Oh I know, I do take food but I don't eat it." "But the nurses do watch people eat and have documented.." "Oh, I know they're watching, so I can eat some food, but I don't need to, or I'll hide it."

"Do dead people need to sleep?" "No." "Well we have these bed times.." "Oh I know, I just lay in bed until the next day starts." "But the nurses come in and check to see that you're sleeping, check your breathing, etc.." "Oh, I know when they're coming and I just pretend to breathe for them."

Then he asks him "Do dead people bleed?" And the guy says no, so he asks, "With your permission, I have a pin with me, would it be ok to prick your finger." The guy allows it, gets pricked, starts bleeding, and instead of that being any kind of question to his worldview, just goes "Oh, I guess dead people do bleed."

It all just gets co-opted into the reality they've already built for themselves.
