They have value for the same reason the usd has value: consensus. Bitcoin just has the added benefit of not being able to be seized by a government and fraudulent currency being impossible.

It can just be stolen, at alarming rates.

I actually think BCH will win out over BTC in the long run. Lower fees and faster transaction rate. BTC network is incredibly slow and expensive to work with right now!
