I know this has been said before regarding today’s fight but it was even more apparent to me after watching the replay on FightPass.

Bisping was really on Allen’s side in that fight. Now, i know it’s perfectly understandable to uplift the underdog or the guy losing the fight to the audience because we can tend to forget how good a fighter is when a fight isn’t going their way. But I don’t think Bisping did that, I think he was rooting for Allen and not being as objective as he could be.

It was a very competitive fight but Max won convincingly and people who are far less trained/experienced/knowledgeable on MMA than Bisping saw it in real time so i don’t think I’m crazy.

I also understand that as the expert he has to give us an insight into what a fighter should do in the situations they’re in.

Am I Crazy? It’s just something that stuck out to me while watching.

Do you feel the same? Do you disagree? What are your thoughts?

Bisping and DC get an ego trip out of the idea that the fighters sometimes hear them and might take their advice to help win a fight. That’s why DC sometimes starts loudly going into detail on what they should be doing to escape a ground position.

Yeah I’ve noticed that. I can’t understand explaining to the audience how a fighter can complete a takedown or reverse a position but yeah it seems his inner coach comes out in those situations.

I don't really get the general upset with the commentators.
We all have eyes. They aren't in place for blind people and they are not the ones scoring the fights.
They are there to give their opinion, and opinions are by definition subjective. That's why they have multiple commentators, so the bias balances itself out.

I remember Joe Rogan doing that during a Mark Hunt submission attempt vs Ben Rothwell in Denver. Shit was hilarious.

That whole event was a laugh.

I don't think that you are crazy, but I don't agree with the notion that it's the commentators' job to be neutral.

If DC is in the booth when Poirier or Islam are fighting, I don't think that it's necessary (or even desirable) for him to pretend like he doesn't care. It makes the fight more interesting to me when one of the commentators is covering a fight in which a friend or an old rival are involved and he is giving his own very personal take on this event. I wish that all the people crying about commentator bias reflectred a bit on the fact that comentators are not judging fights or handing out bonuses. They are there simply to give the viewer a 'watch party' atmosphere. Do you get annoyed when friends you are watching with are 'biased'? LOL

That said, I do think that commentators should remain professional. To me, this simply means doing the job well; giving insights on technique, providing a bit of color, identifying certain key moments, shifts in momentum, etc.. Being completely neutral is not necessarily quality commentary and it is not a requirement imo. Again: think of this as a watch party with Felder, Anik, DC or whoever in the room. They have their favorites, you have yours. It's all good. Shit will go down the way it's meant to go down regardless.

As long as they have current/former fighters doing the commentary, there will always be an element of bias. Which is fine, IMO. Guys like DC and Bisping are good friends with some of the current fighters, it would be literally impossible for them to call a fight without any bias when one of their good friends/training partners is in there fighting. It's just human nature. Bisping was obviously rooting for his fellow Brit last night. It's all good... it doesn't really have any impact on my ability to enjoy the fight.

Yawn, people used to say the same thing about Dan Hardy.

Bisping was fine last night. He said Allen was doing well in a fight he did really well in. He also said he was just a step behind Max.

Meanwhile DC is going nuts over his friends and all the wrestlers and you don't hear a peep.

My biggest gripe with Bisping is him always making things about himself, and being so desperate to be funny that he will distract the other commentators and soon nobody is even talking about the fight we’re watching.

As for last night, I do wonder sometimes if the commentators are specifically told to hype up the lesser-known fighter, so the audience will be more interested in them going forward. It would make sense in this case, considering that Allen could be challenging for a title in the next couple of years, and obviously at this point the UFC is potentially going to be trying to market a guy who got loudly booed for no reason.

Think he did fine. Was just saying Allen was making it competitive. DC couldn’t stop hyping Max up making it seem like he was blowing Allen out of the water.

I prefer Bisping over Cruz, Rogan, and DC.

Felder is good too.

He's the most biased commentator the UFC has. He's hella biased towards English fighters and people he's trained with

Tbh look at some of the sussy British judging in favor of the hometown favorite going back all the way to Hamill v Bisping.

I really don't think it's a Bisping problem as an individual. I just think the British care more about seeing other British fighters succeed than these other countries do.
