Actually, he's an even worse champ since Serra did legitimately earn his title shot. Also Matt Serra didn't try to have his first title defense against a 50 year old grandpa.

I think he earned his shot more than Serra did. Serra was a non UFC fighter who won a tournament against other non UFC fighters. At least Bisping was towards the top of the division and on a win streak.

I like Matt Serra as a person, coach, and BJJ practitioner. But to say he earned his shot more than Bisping did is ridiculous though. Serra got a pre-arranged shot via a marketing mechanism by the UFC, whereas Bisping was on the UFC roster for about a decade with what, 18 wins? He likely wasn't the next best candidate in line for a shot but he wasn't some out of the blue competitor. It was an upset, sure. But not even close to the level of Serra over GSP. GSP (even though at the time of the upset wasn't "GSP", ie GOAT candidate) was a better fighter than Rockhold, and Bisping was a more accomplished fighter than Serra. Good for both of them, curious to see what Bisping's plans are win or loss in his first title defense.

Not quite.

Season 4 of the Ultimate fighter was "the comeback", consisting of fighters who were previously in the UFC and not actually achieved anything. Many had fought two or three times and lost them all, been cut, and were given this as a chance at getting back in. Serra was 4-4 in the UFC at the time and hadn't been cut.

Lol good shit, TS. It is funny how Bisping wants an easy defense against an old man that's been KOed a bunch of times recently, whereas Serra's defense was against GSP. Speaks volumes about their mindsets.

Hendo by KO again anyway, tho

Bisping should defend against Weidman or Jacare and that is that.
I'm a Bisping fan and I don't give a damn about him getting his revenge against an old man.

Serra and Bisping are virtually nothing alike, excepting their incredible upset wins over great fighters. Neither 'deserved' their shot more than the other, circumstance dictated that they competed for a title and both made the most of that opportunity.

I will say that I found Rockhold's casual wandering around with his hands down leading to being brutally KO'd to be extremely entertaining. He wrll and truly got what he was asking for.

Henderson is about to retire and Bisping wants to avenge the loss. Henderson also just knocked out Lombard in the craziest fashion possible. Giving Henderson the chance to retire with the UFC belt and to give Bisping a chance to avenge a loss before Henderson retires would be a fantastic end to two long careers.

I do not disagree at all, Bisping vs Hendo now is laughable. But I do want to see it, as a spectacle the idea intrigues me. It would be a good fight, just not for the belt.

If it happens I will not cry, I'll accept it and look forward to it. It'd be a freakshow, but one I'd welcome.

Interesting. I didn't watch that season, but always assumed it was past UFC fighters that were getting a second chance, which is what I think all of them were, except for Serra apparently. Kind of odd that a current UFC fighter would be put on that show.

I agree TS. Tons of guys at MW with undeserved hype. Anderson Silva is another example. He's basically Matt Serra 0.5. Got a title shot off of 1 win in the UFC: beating some guy who couldn't even win TUF, and he got lucky twice because Rich Franklin had a sensitive nose and didn't employ the right strategy. He would've gotten destroyed by Lutter but as luck would have it, Lutter wasn't professional enough to cut weight properly.

So much salt in this thread. Sherdog has been glorious since Ping won the belt.

It may have been the case he had just been cut, then put on the show straight away. He certainly hadnt fought elsewhere in between.

Bisping won it because he saw Luke's weak boxing skills and down right hand.
He caught him and he's a champ.
2 weeks notice baby.
Left hook Larry.

haha, yea I looked up his record right after I read your post. It wasn't even a long layoff or anything between his last fight and being on that show. Now I'm just curious as to why the fuck he was on the show in the first place.

Both men were granted title shots with some amount of merit, both men beat the champion.

Bisping and Serra are UFC champions. Respect.

Someone is a stupid, salty, butthurt hater
