To be fair to Royce Gracie, he beat Ken Shamrock who was a submission wrestler and he beat Dan Severn who was a BIG wrestler.
 
The best thing was when he came back for UFC 3 and said in his promo that he trained Gi techniques in preperation for the event. Judging from his fight with Christophe Leininger that night, i assume the technique he trained was grabbing his opponent by the collar with one hand and bashing his brains in with the other.

You know I remember Leininger. I thought he was a tough fighter & showed some skills but he had some shit luck getting Shamrock & Guy Mezger as his UFC fights. I think with more favorable match ups he'd have gotten some wins.

Leininger wasn't bad at all. He could have easily beaten a lot of other single styled fighters. If you faced him against Harold Howard or Keith Hackney in UFC 3 it would have been a competetive fight at the very least.
