Goldberg captured the WCW HW title in under a year (Jul 98) after his pro-wrestling debut (Sep 97 - first televised match). Has any other WWE/F or WCW wrestler risen to fame as quickly, especially with no prior ties to PW (wrestling families etc)?

Warrior has to be up there. Granted, he had a bit of seasoning before he took off, but outside of his "Dingo Warrior" days, and some stints with Sting, he basically came in and cleaned house in short order. Crashed and burned all the same.

The Giant aka Big Show won the WCW World Championship in his first ever match.

Kurt Angle won the European and IC titles 3 months after debuting, the King of the Ring tournament 6 months after debuting, and the WWF World Championship 11 months after debuting.

Not WWF or WCW, but Salman Hashimikov won the IWGP Heavyweight Championship in New Japan 3 months after debuting.

Brock. Made his debut in March, wok the WWE title in August. Won thr Rumble, and headline Wreatlemania and won his 2nd wwe title all within a year of being on the roster

if I recall within 6 months he had pinned wins over Hulk, Rock, and Triple H and they wanted him to literally squash Austin next. unprecedented.

He had been wrestling for 4 years in 4 different major territories and had been in the WWF for over a year before he became Intercontinental champion and 3 years before he became World Champion, which was his sixth year in the rasslin business

Show, Brock and Angle come to mind first (as already mentioned)

I guess Rhonda Rousey counts? Debut at WM and won the title at Summerslam

The Sage speaks.

Tell us, Brother Pete, those blessed by the Lords of the Book to gain the Throne swiftly after a debut with no prior work outside of developmental.

Off the top of my skull:
Brock
Ronda
Angle

I dont know about developmental and all that stuff but the most famous name I can think of that everyone here would know is Lex Luger

He was only in the rasslin business for 20 days before they put the Southern Title on him down in the Florida territory back in 1985

This was played up as a huge deal at the time because obviously Luger looked like a million bucks and everyone thought he might be the perfect future star for the NWA to battle against Vince and Hogan and the invading WWF

Suddenly, all the magazines had a new cover boy that they could feature to try and move some papers so he was pushed hard right from the jump and other territories were mentioning him and showing clips of his matches and promo videos of him working out and flexing and living a playboy lifestyle on their tv shows

Brock is his only rival IMO. But even Brock spent a year in OVW.

I know Show won right off the bat, but I don't think he was ever supposed to be "the guy", ie the face of the company. Goldberg and Brock were basically being set up to be the next Hogan.

Brock. People were literally chanting "Goldberg" when Brock would wrestle, and this was prior to his match with Rock at Summer Slam.

As previously pointed out, Brock spent time in OVW, which when you look at in ring talent and psychology is obvious

- The captain Charisma won a title on his first match. But he can wrestle. Unlinke Goldberg, even thought i like Bill.
