I wouldn't be surprised if (In the not too distant future) some State gov. mandate human waste be turned into fertilizer.

In all seriousness: Some of these toilets turns waste into ash, reducing water usage and making sanitation better. So sounds like a good thing. Others use chemicals to turn waste into fertilizer, which I am leary about.

If we use animal shit I don't see why this would be a huge deal.

Some people tend to be fine with animal poop but not human poop. I am ok with herbivore animal poop, but wouldn't want human waste. My opposition is not based on science, because once the poop is treated it isn't poop anymore, so my opposition is psychological.

Some people tend to be fine with animal poop but not human poop. I am ok with herbivore animal poop, but wouldn't want human waste. My opposition is not based on science, because once the poop is treated it isn't poop anymore, so my opposition is psychological.

Human shit is kind of gross because of the shit we eat, but assuming it's going through the right processing to make it safe I don't see the issue.

I think we should see a bigger drive to make composting a normal part of society as well. We throw away so much food that ends up in dumps when it should be going to compost that can then fertilize other crops.

I can remember when I lived in Illinois, in the middle of farm country, sometimes the farmers would use natural fertilizer. The area could smell awful for awhile after that. Some I knew would joke that Illinois stinks in more ways than one.

Apparently natural fertilizer isn't nearly as good at growing crops as man made fertilizer. that is what Sri Lanka found out the hard way recently. To be green, and receive money from big banks the island countries government outlawed artificial fertilizer. All that could be used was natural fertilizer instead. That didn't work out well. Far less food was being produced using natural fertilizer, leading to starvation, high inflation, and resulting in people storming and overthrowing the government.

This has been going on for decades. Nothing new here.

Personally I wouldn't use it for food production. Fine for landscaping needs. There is way too much contaminants in human waste and in the collected waste water.

I work in the compost industry FYI.
