Biggest winner tonight was Sean O'Malley

You just randomly make shit up all the time or just this time? https://www.espn.com/mma/fightcenter/_/id/600057024/league/ufc Hes listed as the 3rd fight on the main card.... Hes probably one of the most popular fighters on the card no matter which part of the card he would fight on, and as we have just seen(higher ranking fighters getting passed over for a title shot), popularity has a very big role to play on who is at the top of the challenger list.
I could of sworn it was prelims, well I'll admit to being wrong on that but still, he's not a draw and he's already gotten more freebies than he deserves. The judges gifted him the Yan fight, the UFC gifted him the easy first title defense against Chito and they gifted him the immediate rematch against Merab despite not deserving it. No more gifts for this guy, he needs to start working for another title shot, he can start with Song, if he gets past him then he can go fight Corey, if he gets past Corey, then Umar and then if he beats all of them THEN he can get another TS. Fuck his privilege.

If sean beats yadong.... paramount is definitely going to want to push Yan vs O'malley 2.

its pretty easy to pass over Merab here. Its not a fan friendly style and there wasn't a fluke KO. He got beat everywhere. For 25 minutes.
Sean will 100% get the shot over Merab. There isn't a doubt in my mind about that.

i agree he has been lucky/gotten gifts, hell i said exact same shit when he got them, but if he beats Song dont be surprised if he gets another shot since hes #2 ranked fighter in that division, and i can almost guarantee his title shot if he beats anyone after Song and Yan still holds the belt, at that point id be shocked if he doesn't get it. Im not saying this cuz i like the game, i just know how they play this game and his luck continues with this Yan win, he had 0 chance doing anything in this division with Merab as champ, now anything is possible.

He's the closest thing to a draw we've seen at 135 whether you personally hate him (which you clearly do) or not

Seems like it would've been better for O'Malley to not fight Merab the 2nd time. If he beat someone in the top 10 instead he'd be fighting Yan nex.t

Yan won their fight. I think he beats O'Malley a second time

If he earns it I don't mind him getting another shot but he's always getting the easy road to the title which bothers me. Even now he's getting Song, a favorable match up that he's likely to win instead of Corey (who is a stylistically much tougher match up) who he's been able to conveniently avoid for so long.

I don't hate Sean personally, he seems alright, I just hate his privilege.

This was hard to read it is so out-of touch.

Guy. If OMalley beats Yadong...
and you know... TPTB want to see OMally beat Yadong,
for sure:
Tie goes to the poodle judging will be in place.
Winner by knockdown for Suga will be in place

And once Sean gets even the most gift wrapped W you ever seen

They will make the Yan fight.

Fuckin BELIEVE THAT.

Lmaoo. I wouldn't really be surprised if this does happen. Sean is so protected, the fact his generational run avoiding Corey is still going pretty much guarantees he'll never fight Umar either. They'll probably do Figueredo vs o Malley after song to give the title shot more legitimacy. " O'Malley beat former champ Figueredo duuuude.. he definitely deserves next TS!"

I don't think they would even risk Sean losing to Figgy smalls.

I think if Sean beats Song... by ANY means possible including slip on a banana peel or corrupt as fuck judging, they book Yan vs Poodle 2 and do so with the quickness.

That way they can sell it is "these guys have unfinished business and Merab needs time to recover after 4 fights last year."

I look at their decision making thru the lens of "what makes us the quickest buck RIGHT NOW?" ... which has seemed to be the pretty obvious playbook ever since the 4.whatever billion dollar zuffa buyout.

For example Sean rematch vs Merab:

I don't think ANYONE legitimately thought he would win.

So why book it knowing a 2nd loss to merab would potentially end being able to sell OMalley as a title contender?
Because it is money right now, vs if Sean goes and loses to someone else then you never get to cash out another title fight with whatever poodle money there is.

Same shit here.

If there is any window of opportunity whatsoever to grab that money, ESPECIALLY with the timing of Paramount having just invested a billion a year for UFC... they are gonna grab whatever cash while the grabbing is good.

It's totally absurd from a logic and sporting perspective but logic is not the prevailing deciding factor. Money is

Would be a joke if he got it off beating Song. Merab rolled him twice.

Sean O'Malley is a bad match up for Yan who is a more well rounded fighter, but his size is an issue when he actually wants to strike with a longer and faster striker like Sean, i dont see Yan holding the belt for long, he was just the perfect opponent to defeat a very one dimensional fighter in Merab.

I thought the same thing...that Sean must have loved this outcome, knowing that a win over Song will put him right back in the title picture.

People can cry all they want about the judges in the first fight, Sean losing twice to Merab, blah blah blah...look no further than Usman losing twice to Leon, losing to Khamzat, and only beating Buckley, yet at least being in the title conversation at WW.

Much will depend upon how Figgy vs. Umar plays out, and whether Merab gets an immediate rematch, but Sean's worst-case scenario with a win is perhaps an eliminator fight with Sandhagen. With the way the UFC has been handing out title shots, beating Song could even be all Sean needs, with the UFC making Merab fight the winner of Umar-Figgy lol. Of course, that would be very sketchy from a merit standpoint...but it would also not surprise me at all.

<TheWire1>

That was deep

I thought about this as well, if O'Malley gets past Song I can easily see them screwing Merab over and giving Sean the TS. Although I will say that while I think Merab deserves another chance at Yan, I think he needs to take some time off after the year he's had and the damage he took last night.

O'Malley got a gift in their first fight and everybody knows it. They'll probably set up a rematch, but Yan kills him this time

Sean is broke.
Spent all his money on hookers after he stopped beating off.
No new money coming in because he stopped selling weed.
UFC refuses to pay for tat-removal, so Sean feels self-conscious regret every time he goes outside.

He's a broken man. Contender already beat him twice.

So OP is correct: Clown O'Malley is the first fight they will make for Yan unless Yan plays ball and fights other dudes for free.

Only if you believe fighters stay the same and don't improve, I guess...
