It falls under recently bias as well

For me one of the biggest things that makes my gears grind from casuals is resume

“Well B.J.Penn and Matt Hughes resume didn’t age well and they had too many losses.”

Just an irrelevant conversation in GOAT status like in 10 20 years you will have to fight tooth and nail as to why your goat of a divison is not overrated

Like a great example would be after Kamaru Usman KOed Jorge Masvidal back in 2021,Kamaru Usman just got his 3rd title defence and many people including forum posters on Sherdog, said that Usman was the GOAT and that GSP was a bum who lost to Matt Serra

Fast Forward 4 years

And Usman has lost the belt via KO to a mentally defeated Leon Edwards at altitude, via a head kick in the 5th round, (Belal and Brady also made Leon mentally (defeated and embarrassed him)

Kamaru then lost a majority decision to Leon

Lost to Khamzat in a close fight that (should have a draw)

And beat Buckley

And now Usmans back to begging for a title shot off one win

People confusing exciting and good. So often you see fans downplaing how good wrestlers like Arman or Evloev are while losing their mind over and proclaiming any fighter that produces highlight reel knockouts over low level opposition to be future champion.
Think of how highly people though of Ruffy or Prates, or even how people forgot some of Michel Peirera awful showings because he had gotten a few quick finish in a row.

I don't define casuals by how dedicated they are or how well they know the current crop of fighters, I define them by the reasons they watch the sport: if they're highly knowlegeable (and likely trained) in martial arts and they watch for the skill, then they're not a casual; if they watch for the "narratives" and all the dramatic bullshit the UFC tries to whip u, then they're a casual (regardless of how knowledgeable they actually are).

So the thing that grinds my gears about casuals is that they're the reason the UFC is rewarded for all the bullshit I hate.

Not sure if this is the answer youre looking for but...

When I was in my 20s and still training, and also had friends (sherbros are my only friends now), the amount of casual friends id have that would want to do some form of grappling during or after the events was annoying as fuck. Watching two retards trying to rear naked choke each other at the same time is brain numbing.

Same! Being a hardcore is exhausting.

is that 60 year old brazilian kid that's 50/50 in the ufc still an upcoming talent and future champ? something something silva? what about the other brazilian or mexican dork who wears glasses indoors that somehow gets his ass kicked in all the important fights? i can't remember.

The biggest thing that grinds my gears about the casuals is that they refer to fighters like GSP and Fedor as "old school". That just makes me feel old...

Brazilians and Mexicans are out, man, it's all about identical-looking Eurasian Muslims now.

The thing that annoys me the most is when they have a new "p4p greatest fighter ever" every time someone just wins a fight, its so cringe and embarrassing, guys like Luffy on here who have had tons of new greatest p4p fighters ever every few months and then when they lose he is on to the next one, its just too much for me. Just because someone wins a fight doesn't mean they are the new p4p greatest ever in that division

For me, it’s if they ever find a fight to be boring. How dare someone have a different opinion than me? I regularly jerk off while watching old Jon Fitch fights on a loop. If anyone disagrees with me, they don’t know shit. Same with movies - if some casual finds a movie that I like to be boring, I automatically hate them.

The focus on p4p and multi division champions is one of the main reasons for the sport sucking.

Casuals who reward "their guy" with support and saying "he's cleaned out the division" after winning the title and defending it once (if that) just create this stupid focus on fights that are unlikely to ever happen

The fighter that tapped to strikes is a pussy, the fighter who tapped to a toe hold is still a warrior.

You're a pussy if you tap to stop yourself from getting killed or ending up with brain damage, but you're not a pussy if you tapped to some discomfort to your extremities which will heal and have zero effect on your long term health.
