Biggest heel turn in a show/movie?

It's pretty good when you first see it, but it seems less and less plausible with rewatches.

There's a difference between a heel turn, where the good guy flips to the dark side, and a case where the good guy is revealed to have been the bad guy all along. Anakin is the most obvious heel turn but there are a lot of great ones. In the case where the good guy ends up being the bad guy in disguise, Kevin Costner was great in No Way Out, a very underrated film. Then he kind of did a face turn by refusing to let Gene Hackman slide in exchange for more access.

Gemma Teller in Sons of Anarchy, made me almost rage quit that show
Jamie Dutton in Yellowstone, almost felt sorry for him and almost can justify his behavior
Syndrome in The Incredibles, A seemingly harmless fan revealed as the bitter, rejected inventor seeking revenge
Cypher in The Matrix, Betrays his crew for a comfortable life back in the Matrix
Michael Corleone in The Godfather Part II, His descent from war hero to ruthless crime boss solidifies his dark path.
Lando Calrissian in The Empire Strikes Backm Betrays Han Solo at Cloud City

Pro wrestling fans know how much engagement you get from a take for heel turn.

But what about outside of pro wrestling? Movies and shows have had their fair share of characters that you think were good guys until the end when you find out they betrayed the protagonist.

What are the best ones?

And they don't need to be plot twists either. Like Anakin Skywalker, everyone knew he was going to turn heel and it was still fun to watch.
Gul Dukat in Deep Space Nine

Went from mid-card heel for 3 seasons like the Rock in the Nation, slowly did a face turn season 4 and 5 where he played a The Rock takes over style Antihero with catchphrases.

Then season 5 End into Season 6 he full on embraced the Heel by joining the corporation like Rock siding with Vince to beat Austin...

Season 6 he holds the belt awhile, But ultimately drops it at WrestleMania....and on top of that, they kill his daughter and he is captured. Its actually one of 2 times I shed a tear in the DS9 series.

He is back to sporadic appearances but in the season 6 Finale into season 7, goes full Evil, and i mean Full Evil.
His one saving grace during Full Evil mode is disintegrating Kai Wynn in the series finale, because fuck that bitch.

On that note, Damar in DS9 made the most unexpected Face turn in the final Season. He was such a lackey for the entire show until Season 7 and you just HATED him for shooting Dukat's daughter because it gave us the most emotional moments in Trek History and then somehow season 7 they made a believable face turn for him

Good point, ones a "it was me all along" reveal vs heel turn.

Vic letting Ronnie take all the heat. Turns out he really was just as bad as Shane.

To be fair though both of them were heels from the first episode...the beauty of that show was it made you forget it until it reminded you at the most dramatic moments.

GOAT TV show
Shane was a bastard the whole time, he just got worse and worse and worse.

But Vic, yeah they show he's horrible in the pilot, then trick you into liking him and hating Aceveda, and in the long run they're all terrible.

Walter White is probably the GOAT heel turn though but since he’s the protagonist it doesn’t feel that way.
I would say the heel turn happens when Hank finds out. It's like we're experience the shock and betrayal through his eyes and it's great.

Claudette was the only decent human cop in that show. (Fucking great actress and character, originally was supposed to be a male detective....take note Hollywood, that's how you do a badass female detective. Her vs Vic at the end was epic)

Strike Team: corrupt
Aceveda: political opportunist
Dutch: sex pest, cat killer
Danny: whore
Julian: closeted gay basher (and the actor is actually in prison for murder now)

For a lot of people it was letting Jane die. For me, it was seeing Gomez lying dead at the beginning of Ozymandias. I tolerated him almost to the very end. Jessie was an ingrate. Walt risked his own life to keep his punk ass alive so many times when he didn’t have to. And I don’t fault him for letting Jane die. She was a junkie trying to black mail him.

Yeah Claudette was real police. Glenn Close's captain seemed fairly upright. And Lem was a solid dude surrounded by shitty people.

Whittaker was unhinged. Dutch had the most punchable face even before he started experimenting with animal abuse.

Ugly bitch in They Live

Same ugly bitch in Leviathan

I wanna say 3 separate guys in Braveheart, but those are betrayals.

Glenngary Glen Ross

Good call on Rawlings (Close) but she did threaten to put Antwon's son in a position to be haped and murdered in jail, and supposedly fucked her old married partner while he was married. So #2 on "goodest" Shield cop

Lem was the least bad of the Strike team, but he played along ripping off criminals and setting folks up.
