Pro wrestling fans know how much engagement you get from a take for heel turn.

But what about outside of pro wrestling? Movies and shows have had their fair share of characters that you think were good guys until the end when you find out they betrayed the protagonist.

What are the best ones?

And they don't need to be plot twists either. Like Anakin Skywalker, everyone knew he was going to turn heel and it was still fun to watch.

great thread topic. Doesn’t really fit your OP since it happens early in the film but Trevelyan in Goldeneye is a good one, namely, cause Sean Bean turned out to be an awesome Bond villain.

Allison Williams in Get Out was solid. Did a good job of making her character seem like the empathetic outlier of her family up until the big reveal.

Cromwell in LA confidential. Certainly never comes across as a “good” guy but his full on heel reveal is a memorable scene.

Whether Daniel LaRusso ruined Terry Silver's life is a major debate in the Cobra Kai fandom, with arguments suggesting Daniel's persistent opposition, refusal to forgive, and creation of rivalry pushed the already unstable Silver further into villainy, while others argue Silver's inherent psychopathy and manipulative nature meant he would always seek to destroy Daniel, with Daniel's actions simply a catalyst for Silver's self-destruction. Silver’s life unravels after his schemes against Daniel are exposed in Karate Kid Part III, leading to his defeat, and again in Cobra Kai, culminating in his arrest, with many attributing his downfall to his own choices and Daniel's consistent resistance.

  • Unrelenting Opposition: Daniel's distrust and consistent fight against Silver's Cobra Kai forced Silver to escalate his tactics, making him feel he had to win at any cost, as seen in The Karate Kid Part III.
  • Refusal to Forgive: Some fans believe if Daniel had shown more empathy or accepted Silver's (possibly disingenuous) apologies, Silver might have felt less isolated and angry.
  • Catalyst for Downfall: Daniel's actions exposed Silver's cheating and ultimately led to his downfall in Cobra Kai, ruining his plans to expand Cobra Kai.

Man, I feel like there are so many, but I can't think of any, other than the "Scream" dudes.

Dexter's brother in Season 1, I guess, but it was pretty damn obvious.
