Bigger fall from grace: Barao Or Woodley?

BJ was a legend. A two division champ. He fought Machida in a HW match up. He's currently 16-14-2 and 1-9-1 (being finished 3 times) in his last 11 fights. Not to mention being flattened by a chubby in a street fight.

Renan was a dominant champ, pound-for-pound number one and riding a massive 32 winning streak. He's currently 34-9-1 and 2-8 (finished 3 times) in his last 10.

Woodley, once a dominant champ, is now 19-7-1 and 0-4 in his last 4.
Not to mention, 0-2 (1 KO) boxing a youtuber.

So, in my books it's BJ, Barao and Woodley in this order.
BJ's fall was just terrible. 1-9-1 after beating Diego :(

Out of these two, it's clearly Woodley. Johny Hendricks and BJ Penn are his only competitors for the biggest, most embarrassing fall from grace.

Barao's was a longer fall imo. He was much higher regarded in the sport than woodley at the time of his fall. And it was sudden, and catastophic at not even really an old oge. Woodleys is just more publicly embarrassing due to who he lost to, and how.

Barao fell off from GOAT candidate to has-been in a terrible way. USADA appeared, he got derailed, and ultimately kept going when his mind wasn't in it and accumulated a bunch of losses. Nothing we haven't seen before with others like BJ Penn or Chuck Lidell. Plus, there was no media circus around the whole affair, which makes it less notable.

Nothing will ever ever top Woodley's disgrace, there's no comparison.

why on earth did Woodley drop his left hand as his opponent loaded up on a telegraphed overhand right amateur YouTuber missile straight towards his chin?

Didn’t bother watching the fight but that looks suspicious af

What helps Woodley is the fact all of his MMA losses (on that skid) are from Top 5 WW's only. What doesn't help is the fact he lost twice Jake Paul who on top of all that KO'd him badly. Hard to say honestly.

Barao may have a rougher career ending, but Woodley is embarrassing himself in front of a much larger audience across multiple platforms and activities. At least he's getting paid.

Woodley is the cringiest fighter by far. I felt embarrassed even watching that first clip.

He's with his hands down talking and not fighting back. It's still a bad look but the gif makes it seem like they're having a boxing match. No idea if the sequence in the end is before or after.

That is BJ’s excuse.

You can see the guy was fighting for real. BJ was clowning and mocking the other guy and got KO’ed screwing around.

Woodley by far.

Barao at least was lowkey in his fall. The guy never talked much trash.. just started to perform poorly while his division got exponentially better.

Tyron talked a lot of trash about him being the WW GOAT, started a mediocre rapping career, kept talking shit.. and all of this while losing every single fight he has been in and not being competitive doing so (except the first Jake fight).

Dont know if you can really compare the 2 . Barao is more Torres- esque ..... was just superior to inferior competition for quite a spell. You can look at that in 2 ways.

There are alot of UFC champions that lost and then a rather harsh decline( getting dead fall face planted by youtuber aside).Another reason why this sport so unforgiving.

Barao. Woodley was older when he started to decline, and was losing to the top guys for the most part. Barao fell off a cliff overnight and couldn't beat anyone anymore.
Good point

In Defense of Woodley:
Two Weeks Notice
Opponent 15 years younger
Opponent allegedly juiced to the gills

He's all over the internet getting viciously slept by Jake Paul and now king of memes. Hard to top that.

Barao for sure! does anyone know why he started losing after T.J. fight?

The amount of damage he took in those 2 fights made him mentally check out of the sport. Former partners said he stopped training seriously and preparing for fights.

Some people say USADA though, like they say for every fighter who started declining at that time. They seem to ignore the fact that some fighters completely lost it after a savage beating like Tony Ferguson did.

I'm gonna say Barao, I thought he would be one of the GOATs and would be champ for a long time, I gave TJ no chance in that first fight, still the biggest UFC upset I've seen, as for Woodley, I always knew he was good, but his weakness was always backing up against the fence, I figured he was just a champ at the right time, and ties shouldn't count as a title defense
