People want to call fighters names and hurl insults. They don’t want to consider context or rationality.


Israel was still kickboxing until 2017.

Jon Jones was a multiple time defending UFC champion before Israel had fought his first pro MMA fight, he fights at a weight class 20 pounds higher than Israel (technically he is fighting at a weight class 60-80 pounds higher now) and he is #1 p4p and commonly considered the greatest MMA fighter of all time.


But people want to say Israel is ducking him because 3 years after Izzy switched his focus to MMA he still had not moved up in weight to challenge Jon.


I’m pretty sure Izzy has said 2021 all along. Jon talked about moving to HW for about a decade before he did it.

Let Jon fight for the HW belt (He should bring something to the party, that’s just good manners), and Izzy can fight Jan for LHW belt and champ champ status.

If they both make good on their end then they can scrap for the HW belt and arguably the #1 goat spot on in about a year or so. Both guys are exceptional fighters, they should be able to hold up their end of the deal and make this fight the biggest fight in MMA history, as it should be.

If Jon gets KOed or doesn’t follow through on his HW move then they can do it at 205.

Fights of this magnitude take time. Israel did the right thing by defending his belt and cleaning out his division first.

That would be awesome to see, Jon vs Izzy for the HW belt and GOAT.

I don't get this claim that by fighting in the weight class you make, that's "avoiding" a heavier weight class.

GSP took time and put on weight, so you could at least argue that he truly believed the size difference mattered to him, and that this is why he avoided MW when he was smaller.
