Big Nog's legacy

his fight vs Bob Sapp is an all time great, legendary fight. that fight alone will be remembered for the rest of MMA history

He’ll be overshadowed because fedor had his number. Just like JDS, who might have had Fedor’s number, but was a bad match up for Cain.

Yes me the guy who thinks one of the most durable fighters ever who was good at dragging people to deep waters is living in fantasy land for thinking he can beat a generic power puncher ngannou with 2 rounds of gas. You weirdos have zero critical thinking skills.

Pillow fist Cain almost murdered him. Make up any horseshit excuse you want. He was fresh off the Couture win and ko'd schaub his next fight.

Francis just took down and took the back of a D1 wrestler who's twice as athletic as Nog.

Francis would kill Nog

Stipe looked terrible in that fight. But in the earlier fight, he took down Ngannou continually. I think Nog would get him down as well, and I think Nog would sub him. Nog has faced huge, heavy hitters and won before.

You think Cain and Ngannou are even remotely similar matchups?

Even without acknowledging that Nog was past his prime when he fought Cain that is such a strange response lol

One of the greatest of all time, top 3 HW. Rodrigo had an incredible run in Pride and his early years in the UFC. You take his run over a span of his first 10 years of his career, 32-5 with great win list. Barnett, Cro Cop, Couture, Sylvia, Werdum, Sergei, Ricco, Herring 3x, Coleman, Hendo, Shilt.

He is a legend but a grade below some of the other ATG Hwts imo.

Frank improved his wrestling. He's a specimen and twice the puncher of anyone Nog fought.

My coach was BTT and personal friends with Nogs.

Nogs wrestling sucks.

How on earth does he get Frank down?

I started watching MMA in 2005. The first time I saw Nogueira's sit out against Bob Sapp I had to know how he did it, and I became a fan of Nogueira and MMA for life. Timestamped. He also hits the same move at 2:45.

That fight doesn't really do him any favors. What #2 HW GOAT has that much trouble with Bob Sapp?

Chandler just fought for the LW title 10 years after beating Eddie Lvarez and being ko'd several times in between.

How bout we talk about Nog's UFC run... befinning at 31...in the shallowest, slowest paced weightclass

Wuh??? What does that have to do with anything lol. I was highlighting the best of Big Nog's career and accomplishments.

But if you wanna go there it's not even a fair assessment LOL. You're comparing Big Nogs UFC run of 11 fights vs Chandlers run of 2?? Big Nog won the UFC title (interim, but Couture was out so you may as well call it the real title) in his second fight. Chandler lost his title fight. If you want to make the comparison you can only judge it two fights into Nogs UFC run or wait till Chandler hits 11 UFC fights.

And age and time of fighting is relative to the fighter, nothing is consistent for everyone, how do you not know that? Fighters age and wear very differently in the sport. Big Nog after 10 years and his wear and tear and injuries is very different from other fighters who may have fought the same length of time but didn't have the wear. Look at Cain Velsaquez, prime example. The man went from a athletic #1 Hw in 2013 to a worn down version in a few years. It's different for every fighter.

The biggest problem fighting Nog was that he was usually tough enough to survive the initial onslaught and was dangerous until the end of the fight. He also had decent stand-up especially for that earlier era. His grappling and boxing were a problem for both strikers and wrestlers. I think some guys had his number but he was always good enough to beat about anybody. Not sure where I'd put him. Maybe 4 or 5.
