Media Big John McCarthy says Covington never had championship level

Colby's fake persona certainly isn't elite level. His fighting is/was good enough though.

I agree, I’m in the minority but I don’t think he beat RDA, I’ve rewatched the second round 3 times and Colby barely lands, he gets like one takedown that he does nothing with and gets outstruck the entire time, sorry I’m not giving you the round for missing almost every shot
I've been on that hill for a long time.

To be championship level shouldn't you have won the title?

It's pedantic really. He has had a good career. He never won the title. It is what it is. He's in good company. Nick Diaz, Nate Diaz, Jake Shields, Dustin Poirier, Jorge, Cerrone, the list goes on.

Not winning a belt doesn't mean you're not championship level. That's like saying Tony on a 12 fight winstreak was never on that championship level, because he never won the belt. Colby at his peak was clearly the number 2 guy behind Usman, and very close. People can pick his resume apart all they want, but he fought who was there at the time. Now he lost to Leon and all of a sudden he's a bum? Who's the last guy to beat Leon?
That's not really a fair comparison. Tony fought everyone they put in front of him and tore them apart. Colby picked and chose the weakest possible options and still underwhelmed.

I disagree. He 100% would have beat Tyron Woodley if he fought him when Usman did. Big John also said Amasov was the best WW in the world when he just got slept by a dude Colby beat. He's a Bellator shill
He lost to Colby over a decade ago. I'd hardly say that matters when talking about their current statuses.

The fact that you're bringing Trump into it shows you're a little too biased against Colby to compliment where his skills once were. You brought up the negatives about the Usman fights but not the positives.

Scores were all over the map for the first fight given how close it was prior to the stoppage, but one judge had Colby up 3-1 and it wasn't seen as a controversial scorecard. So yeah if you have a case to be minutes away from defeating Prime Usman you've clearly shown yourself to be championship level.
But he only got a shot at an interim title because he sucked Trump's tiny Dick.

Just like Gus vs Jones, Gus was never championship caliber but was competitive at the top. Covington will have a similar sharp decline at 35.

I’m arguing with someone in another thread, theyre accusing me of being biased against colby even though I’m literally right wing and kind of wanted him to beat leon, I just honestly genuinely don’t think he beat RDA, he missed or got soooo many shits blocked in the 2nd round, the pivotal deciding round, and it’s so annoying that people won’t even consider it a possibility that RDA won, and I’m not even a RDA fanboy I just care about the rightful winner getting the correct decision

Shots not shits lol

One of the smoothest brain takes of all time. If he isn't even "championship level" then I guess Usman was always trash?

Big John and Josh absolutely HATE Colby. I listen to their podcast. Lol

I don't give a shit one way or other about his tired ass gimmick. I just thought he didn't do enough to win the decision. We're just in a weird time now that close fights and robberies don't exist. Everything is the right call and the judges get it right every time now.

I think Colbys a horrible human being but he still won a belt.

Gus took Jones down with minimal wrestling training from Davis and is the only fighter to hurt Jones without their ACL snapping.

Gus is like Weidman where we hear all these amazing anecdotes about how great he is in camp and for whatever reason at some point just started going wrong for him. He was a great fighter.
