Better clinch game for MMA - Greco or Judo?

I've always thought that a combination of Greco and judo - along with some MT - would be the ideal clinch game for MMA. The fact that both arts are based on an upright posture doesn't hurt either.

Even though there have been some really good Judo Fighters in MMA... I honestly feel that you see more Greco Roman Wrestlers... Key being, JUDO has HANDLES/SLEEVES... GRECO has over hooks, under hooks, etc.

Greco is a smoother transition into MMA... where as Judo, you have to modify everything, NOT SAYING THAT THERE ISN'T SOME SICK THROWS.

And Greco doesnt allows any touching below the leg, you probably dont train either.

Handles and sleeves do limit what you can do somewhat, if your judo is too specialized.

im going to change my answer.... JUDO provided the practitioner has the ability to adapt there judo coorrectly to mma.when i took my first mma fight i had basically only trained judo(cross training a little in bjj) in the 2 months leading up to the fight i worked heavily on boxing, mma sparring and continued my judo training however when doing uchi komi and nage komi i performed all of my throws from under/over hooks rather than gripping the gi.
adapted correctly judo shines in the clinch.

Theyre are both great for clinch work but I would say Greco roman is better due to intensity of training, lack of gi

I've competed in Greco and trained under a former Greco US Olympic coach, but am a complete (yet competent) newb in Judo.

That being said, if you think "greco = no gi, so better in the clinch" and narrow your training focus as a result, you are seriously missing out on some incredibly dynamic and effective techniques that can be learned from modified Judo or Russian style wrestling.

its fairly easy to adapt judo to nogi. IMO about 95% of the throws in judo can be nogi, and most of them are even more effective when used in the clinch. The reason why you don't see clinching in judo is because 1) It leads to grip stalling 2) some clinching is illegal 3) good luck beating a grip fight and getting a clinch that easily. I personally love greco-roman but its major weakness is that you cannot attack with the legs. Judo has its limitations too however greco roman guys are very susceptible to trips/sweeps/hooks/reaps because it is new to them (much like modern judoka and double legs). The perfect clinch would be a man with the upper body control of a greco wrestler and the footwork of a Judoka, both styles have perfect hip control.

Indeed.

Not really got an opinion on which is better for MMA, Greco or Judo. However, it really isn't as difficult as people make out to adapt your Judo to no gi.

Usually those who make out Judo is very hard to do in no gi, don't actually train Judo. Or have shit Judo.

Or have shitty striking and get KTFO.

I've been able to change the Judo I have learned to my no gi BJJ game once you get past how to get your grips and changing your grips most Judo throws can be used in No Gi it helps to train in wrestling which I do.

Rod1 you would be surprised how well wrestlers and Judokas can do against strikers.

alot of judo guys will let you get the clinch, hell they walk right up to you and either grab or get grabbed. they dont care, they're out to impose their will and show you there waza is better. Thats why its used for the japanese police

Indian oil wrestling is prefect in replicating the MMA clinch.

Haven't we learned by now its the practitioner and not the art
