Theres an argument to be made on either side. if their matchup was 1-1 it would be a no brainer. The fact that cain beat the living shit out of him twice is hard to argue against but imo jds has had a much more decorated career fighting much tougher competition.

JDS wins:
Cain
Mirko
Mir
Hunt
CArwin
Stipe
Nelson
Man bear pig
Yvel
Werdum
STruve

Whats even more impressive is hpow he won most of these fights, he obliterated everyone aside from Mirko. The Hunt fight was close but finished him in the most spectacular fashion imagineable.

Cain wins:
Jds x2
Big Ben
Bigfoot x2
Brock
Big Nog
Kongo
Obrien
Stojnic
Brad Morris

Any fan hardcore or not can tell you that JDS has beaten a much higher caliber of competition and done so in spectacular fashion. I think the lopsided fights against eachother helps the Cain arguement but I think if both their careers ended right now, JDS is a notch above Cain.

I would have to go with Cain, and I am a JDS fan. The two wins he has over JDS might be the best two wins at heavyweight ever. Considering how good JDS was at the time. Also he fought Bigfoot when he was still on TRT also very good wins.

Tough but I would say JDS because Cain has pulled out of so many fights

JDS has the better wins and if you asked this question before the Overeem fight id lean slightly towards him. But he got smashed by Overeem so I think Cain. It's close though.

Cain. Too bad he was always injured, though.

It's close, real close. No wrong answers here. I would slightly give it to cain at this point but they both have a few years left to decide.

I have JDS ranked higher than Cain on my all time HW list.

JDS has the better resume.

Cain looked like the most dangerous HW of all time in his prime. His was dangerous every second of the 25 mins of the fight which is unheard of in the division. But his short record if distinct wins just does not cut it.

The win over werdum turned out to be the biggest win on Jds's resume. That's crazy because I wrote it off for so long until werdum subbed fedor. And now werdum is putting something even better together. Cain's big wins are over jds. So add in jds knocking out Cain once plus beating stipe. So the two guys fighting for the title both lost to jds.

Better fighter is Cain but the more accomplished fighter is jds imho. But both are among the greatest hws all time.

I know it's not the best win at HW by any means but it was such a joyous watch and such a thorough ass kicking.

tough to pick between them, anyone stating one is significantly higher ...

JDS by a mile.

Cain is the better fighter between the two but when you take them out of each guys resume it isn't even comparable.

Werdum, Struve, Cro Cop, Gonzaga, Nelson, Carwin, Mir, Hunt, and Stipe.
Bigfoot, Lesnar, Big Nog, Rothwell, and Kongo.

JDS all the way.

I'd give JDS the better career award, Cain's injuries and pull outs damaged his career

suddenly everyone who has ever beaten werdum, even if it was ages ago, gets a boost to their resume.

fightfinder analysis works that way, but real sports history doesnt. fact is, at the time, the JDS win over werdum wasnt worth that much, as werdum was still widely considered a one-dimensional buttflopper, and came into that particular matchup looking pregnant.

can't just retroactively say JDS beat the guy who submitted both fedor and cain, therefore JDS' stock goes up.

I agree with that. Similar to how beating Penn now isn't nearly as relevant as when he was LW champion and was smashing everyone in the division.
