Best single player game ever made?

SOTN is my favorite game period. Nostalgia and the soundtrack just gets me everytime.
Elden Ring is a close second.

Agree with you fellas about RDR2 and I love westerns and the first game. The second is a beautiful slog.

How do i get in on this? What's the most recent one to get?

Sell it to me. I know nothing.
I'm not selling shit lol.

Just know that the universal acclaim for the game is warranted. Elden Ring, while having some questionable design decisions, is nothing short of a behemoth of awe and wonder, lore and mythos, wrapped up into a combat focused action RPG that promotes all kinds of variety in build diversity and role playing. It's very satisfying in progression. Every big enemy or moment feels like a triumph. You will die, and you will die a lot. Multiple endings and NG+ gaming adds to the longevity. There is a lot to find and do.

If you're new to the Souls series of games this one would be very daunting from the beginning. There is no hand holding or clear understanding of where to go or what to do. Or in what order. You'll likely hit the internet for guidance rather quickly.

It's a masterpiece in gaming to be certain.

Crysis was a system killer when it launched, loved that game. The camoflauged NPC's in the jungle early on in the game was incredible, and they actually did try to flank you.

Was really impressive for the time.

Souls games are some of the only games I give no fucks about looking at guides. At least for where to go or quests. Just don’t have the patience or bandwidth to figure it all out on my own. Even saying that, it is a GOAT series, and Elden Ring stands as Lord of all its brethren.

On RDR2, I agree with most of the criticisms of it... but I still think it's one of the best single player games I've ever played. Top 5 for sure. Maybe the bar is just quite low in terms of storytelling and open worlds, I don't know.

Will give some HMs:
RDR2 (GTA games too obv, but RDR2 best rockstar game)

FF8 Ramaster (most replayable FF because of cards and junction system, has 3x speed)

MGSV (gameplay loop of hunting for staff and resources takes a long time to grow stale, I give MSGV a slight edge over RDR2, but it's close)

Final Fantasy Tactics (with class customization and fun battles, has a lot of replayability, played it at least 3 or 4 times)

Tactics Ogre (same as FFT)

Triangle Strategy ( tho i think FFT and Tactics Ogre better; looking forward to next playthrough)

Skyrim

Xenogears (most epic RPG story ever with great music)

Hitman Trilogy (not best but just a lot of fun; silly and creative ways to kill ppl)

SOTN (best metroidvania)

*would consider those A+ single player experiences

EDIT: in MGSV get this wicked mini-mech, can go around gunning down people like the robocop 2 cyborg with a gattling gun, or knocking out little African children with the robotic arm in a sandbox open world. Can also put a flame thrower, missile launcher, or taser arm on it.

Game has a bunch of tiny details. For example, if you aim above the enemy while approaching them with your mini-mech enemies cannot land hits on you (only the mech) but if you are tilted down your head is exposed and they can land shots.

While making this game I heard Kojima and Konami were starting to butt heads, and the game wasn't finished. Good evidence Kojima wanted players to be after to pilot a medium-sized metal gear and perhaps even the full-sized Metal Gear, and some content got cut like some of the story and missions. Could have been GOAT video game.

I've probably spent the most time playing either GTA3 or RE2.
You can argue Mario 1985 since it pretty much resurrected the industry back from the dead in the US.
BOTW has the highest average on Acclaimed Games and Meta.
Half Life 2 still holds up remarkably well despite being 21+ years old now.

Red Dead Redemption 1 I thought had a better story and at the time it was a technical masterpiece.

Chrono Trigger / Final Fantasy 3 has forever stuck with me over all of the years. Same with Duke 3D. All great games that I can go back whenever and play again.

I still think Sekiro is their best game. I know I’m in the minority on that though. People prefer customization but I’ve already preferred a perfectly curated game from start to finish and that’s what Sekiro offers. No cheap bosses, no moments that felt like a slog, better combat animations, and to me it felt more rewarding to master the combat. No matter how good I got at Elden Ring always felt like there was some cheap deaths thrown in there just to frustrate the player. Also towards the end there was a bit too much repetition of world bosses. Would have liked the giant tundra area to offer a bit more variety. Final boss sucked ass too. Elden beast is just a bunch of chasing him back and forth in a big field contrast that to Sekiro having one of the best final bosses of all time. Elden Ring was a 10 for the first 30 hours but I ended up dropping it to an 8.5 to 9 by the end. Sekiro solid 10 all the way through. Both great though
