Depends on what you want, really.

I'd also put RDR2 up there along with The Witcher 3, but those are just my tastes. Perfect melding of film and videogames. Mass Effect is up there as well. Fromsoft games have an argument to make, as do a whole bunch of indie games and classics(Mike Tyson's Punch-Out is like my favorite game of all time).

RDR2 is up there if you're talking about video games as more than just game and form of art. Strictly mechanically/gameplay speaking it was above average, but the writing, score, art direction, and voice acting made up for any shortfalls there.

For me it's either New Vegas, Sekiro, or Kingdom hearts 1/2

Disco Elysium is a straight up masterpiece as well

8 years later and I don't think there is any game out there that comes remotely close.

Budget estimated at $350-500 mils and made $3 bilion in sales.

Really a silly question, there could be many answers and its by genre

- 3rd person RPG: Planescape Torment or Zelda Ocarina of Time
- FPS: Doom Eternal
- Stealth: Thief 3
- Immersive Sim: Deus Ex original

Witcher 3. It is a game I replay every year or two and it never fails to immerse me in its world and surprise me with new pieces of lore I hadn't discovered. Elden Ring does some of the same, too. Gameplay-wise, Control is also up there. I prefered God of War more than RDR2 as the latter felt like a chore to complete, the gameplay was essentially GTA 5's with horses and the story wasn't the best. The characters and world were awesome, though. I will replay it whenever the next-gen version releases.

Surprised Forspoken hasn't been mentioned yet.

Oh and just to give a shout out to a game that I think is up there that maybe isn't rated amongst the pantheon, I absolutely fucking loved Subnautica. Amazing world to explore.

Castlevania Symphony of the Night
Legend of Zelda games
Dark Souls
Bloodborne
Elden Ring
Sekiro
Devil May Cry games
Bayonetta
God Hand

Mass Effect series for me. I couldn't even finish RDR2 game is boring as shit.

Agree on the Mass Effect Trilogy. If I had to be specific then ME2

Also agree on RDR2. Looks stunning but I thought the gameplay and story were pretty lame. I finished it but it was a slog

Yea RDR2 looked incredible. I tried to get into it. I kept pushing through the story and by the time I got to Chapter 3 I just said enough. Between GTA5 and RDR2 I'm just not excited for GTA6 anymore. GTA4 I thought was really good though.

Uncharted 2 Among Thieves tops the list for me. 10 out of 10 game. Perfect pacing, great characters and story, awesome set pieces. Can’t say enough positive things. So sad we probably won’t see Nathan Drake again but I suppose he deserves a nice retirement. Dudes been through it all

Havent played a Rockstar game since they were 2D. So ive basically consumed their games through osmosis. Their dialog always seemed like it was a childs interpretation on how adults speak. Is this right?

Well the actual dialogue has its moments and the voice acting is good. It's just every mission has to end in a gunfight so it's an endless cycle of following hairbrained schemes that end in disaster, and characters trying to rationalize to the player why they keep following these hairbrained schemes that will obviously end in disaster

In GTA this is tolerable because the driving is fun and there are slightly more options in terms of gameplay, but in RDR with the horses just going from mission to mission is a slog, and then every mission winds up being pretty much the same
