Best shin guards for Muay Thai training

I just picked up a pair of Fairtex Pro Shin Guards. Things are amazing. Best I have ever owned.

Too small and solid- can hurt opponents more easily in sparring. I prefer larger Fairtex ones, like these:

I also really like both Twins and Top King shinnies- Top King more for the designs that they have, but still a very good product.
 
The Fairtex posted above are really solid.

I use Twins. Prior to those, I was using Hayabusa mma shin guards. It didn't take too long before a guy ran through me like a freight train while I was checking his kicks. With the twins, I get maximum protection, but the occasional badass can get through on those as well. Maybe I just need to condition my shins more.

I have twins shin pads. They offer really good protection but they are really bulky.
 
Top King is great but it may be too protective for some people. Also, while it does offer more knee protection, it is no replacement for a kneepad.
 
I have literally never worn knee pads, or sparred anyone wearing any. Ever.

same here...never even seen it before. though, it sounds like a good way to practice knees on people safely. throw on a no-contact headgear and you can throw knees all over the place without worrying about head contact. I gotta try this some time.
 
Top king (leather), none of that fancy crap - training
Ring to Cage cloth - smokers/amateurs
 
I have Century shin pads they have been pretty good except I had to stitch them where they started to tear at the instep. I am going to look at some of the other ones mentioned in the thread and it sounds like the Top King ones have been highly recommended.

I started wearing knee pads because a couple of times we were drilling the sweep where you kick out supporting leg after you catch the body kick. He would just kick people in the knee since his technique was shit.
I don't think it was on purpose, but it happened repeatedly so I got kneepads for the event something like that occurred again.

Also I'm a bit of a wuss, but I'm not too happy with knee on knee either
 
Top King are amazingly fabulous. :cool:

However, even with Top King you have many sizes, so you can choose how much knee coverage you want. Personally, I would prefer not too much knee coverage, because if you want to practice combos that involve knees you don't want that part sticking too much out/above your knees.
 
I have top kings and the Fairtex sp5. I like both of them, if I had to pick one....It wouldnt matter, either pair would suit me just fine as a single pair.

its a shame the Thais never picked up on training real knees or they'd be pretty devastating strikers.
