Best of Stephen King

The Long Walk. Not your typical horror story, but the first time I read it, I spent 4 hours on the couch, and finished the book. No breaks. Just couldn't put it down.

^^
Right here, great book.

Green Mile - excellent

Dark Tower II & III were the best of that series IMO

Also enjoyed Dreamcatcher

The Stand is my favorite by far. Pet Sematary was good too. I'm currently reading Under The Dome.

IT will change your life in one way or another. King writes so well that you are so immersed and actually in Derry during the summer of 58.

Some chapters of the book are so good it's downright frightening.

Stephen King is a fantastic story-teller.

The Mist and Crouch End. I prefer his short stories than his novels, so I like a few of his anthology books, but these two are the ones I liked best.

The dreamcatcher book was pretty good, the movie was weak.

I'm in the minority that enjoyed the movie. It's not a masterpiece or anything, but it was a fun watch.

I prefer most of his short stories, although I do like many of his novels as well.

The Mist
The Long Walk
The Running Man
The Jaunt
Graveyard Shift
Misery
The Raft
Gramma
Autopsy Room Four

I've read most of his books. I liked the older ones best, especially the Shining, Salem's Lot, It, and the Stand. Most of his later books have parts I like, intermingled with parts I dislike intensely. After the Wolves of the Calla, I was so gotten to and butthurt I quit reading his books for a long time. I hated it so much. So so much.

Edit: forgot Misery. It was so intense the first time I read it.

salem's lot and It

jerusalem's lot is a good short story

am reading pet semetary now

I liked Desperation, though I think King does a terrible job writing dialogue for children.Eyes of the Dragon was very good.

I'll never forgive King for phoning in the end of the Dark Tower series. I haven't read a word from the guy since I finished that series.

edit- Prior to the DT, I had read everything he'd written.

Serious question.

I agree that writing himself into the story was a cop out, but how else would you have ended Roland's journey? I think he did it the only way it could have ended.

Agree. The build up to Roland going in was so intense that it was going to be disappointing regardless. There is a lot about the ending that I love. Specifically, how it punishes Roland and his obsession

It was awesome, Bag of Bones too. King writes some of the best dialogue, really makes the characters come to life.

I know you weren't addressing me, but I'll take a stab at this. He could have done anything else. Just anything, man. A lot of people liked the way it played out, so I might be in the minority here, but I hated what he did with the series. I'd have rather he left it unfinished.

Salem's Lot

The Stand

Green Mile

Desperation and the Regulators.

I have read alot of King's work (minus the DT series, I'm not feeling the western thing).

My top 5 would be:

1) Pet Cemetery (Scary from top to bottom and one of the few King books with a good ending)
2) Salem's Lot (Great characters and premise)
3) The Stand (Epic in scope and story, but can drag on at times)
4) It (This easily would have taken #1 if not for the horrible ending and the Bev gang bang scene)
5) Needful Things (Entertaining book, but once again, disappointing ending)

That I've read, probably his short story collections - Night Shift, Skeleton Crew, Everything's Eventual. There's so much variety.

I've heard say that IT and The Stand are his best novels but I've not read either of them, nor Dark Tower.

Favourite novels by him I guess are Dreamcatcher, Desperation, and Tommyknockers. Though looking at his bibliography now, I'm not sure I've even read half of it.
