Best of Stephen King

Yeah I remember that. A big fuck you if you want a happy ending or even a real ending section. This after he had already inserted himself as a major character in the story. Imo that car accident really fucked him up for a long time, and the end of Dark Tower was ruined as a result.
for sure. didn't he say he was scared he was going to die before finishing so he just wiped his ass for 1500 pages? He should have written that garbage and put those books in a safe somewhere as a backup and then tried to finish it for real.

I'm gonna have to reread WaG as well. I think I have it on kindle.

Yeah that drunk driver fuck turned him into Bizarro GRRM. He was so afraid he was going to die with in unfinished he just cranked them the fuck out, and it showed. Honestly to this day it's a sore subject for me. Might be my favorite series of all time and he butchered the shit out ot if. I'd like to beat the fuck out of that pos drunk driver, dude ruined everything.

The ending and most of the last couple books managed to be anticlimactic, silly, smug,, pretentious, empty, nonsensical, lazy, boring, and stupid all at the same time. Still get triggered just thinking about it lol.

Guys this is going to sound silly but i don't want to read a novel that will scare the shit out of me.

I've seen Dreamcatcher,Green Mile,etc.

Can anyone recommend a good SK novel that isn't too disturbing?

The Long Walk. Suspenseful without being frightening. One of my favorites.

lol i'd blocked that shit out where he wrote himself into the series and groaned out loud when I remembered it.

The long walk was really good. Actually I thought all the Bachman books were. Super underrated.

It wasn't even like a Stan Lee cameo. He made it a huge piece of the actual story! Most self indulgent cringeworthy bullshit I've ever seen.

I read the first two chapters of It and had nightmares for two nights, at the age of 27 no shit. Never reading Stephen King again.

The essay "On Impact". My favorite thing he's ever done. If you do look for this do your very best not to learn what it is about before reading.

Go in blind. Absolutely necessary.

If you like Stephen King novels I advise you to read "Ghost Story" by Peter Straub. It is similar to King's novel style and it would rival even King's best novels in terms of the quality of writing.

Then I would recommend you watch the movie Ghost Story which is way better than the book.

If any of you want a really gory Stephen King short story, read "In the Tall Grass" - you can probably go through the whole thing in under an hour.

It is far and away the darkest and most twisted story of his career. I felt squeamish reading some parts, and it was genuinely unsettling.

By comparison, Pet Sematary was light hearted.

Just curious, have you read Survivor Type, one of his novellas? Cause i feel the same way about it, bit havent read In The Tall Grass.

I'm reading 11/22/63 right now and enjoying it thoroughly. He put out a bunch of drivel after his accident. Really enjoyed IT, The Stand and the Dark Tower series. I disagree with the poster that said it was phoned in at the end. I think that was his plan since day one. He's written a lot of great stuff over the years. One of the best stories I've read period was "The Man in the Black Suit". I don't know what it was about that story but it freaked me the fuck out as an adult. Big kudos for that.

He absolutely cranked those last couple of books out in a panic over his own mortality and didn't have it all preplanned, and has said as much before. That car accident screwed up his writing for a good 5 years afterwards, and the dark tower series got the brunt of it.

Those books are filled with clumsy, obvious metaphors about mortality. He used us as guinea pigs to get over the accident.

never heard it. At any rate I didn't have any issue with the way he ended it. I thought it was masterful.

Can you explain why? All he did was say everything starts over, so the whole journey is meaningless. And the 3 biggest villains went out in the most anticlimactic way possible. And then Susan just ditched him. I legit don't understand what people liked about it.

My favorite Stephen King book was Misery. Super tight, suspenseful, and just a fun read. Love the movie too.

eyes of the Dragon was the first book I ever read. I think his expanded universe is cool. if you like expanded universes you'll love sanderson
