best language combos to know

If I could choose it would be:
1. English
2. Cantonese
3. Mandarin
4/5. Spanish/Japanese

My wife can speak English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Punjabi (also can read/write in Chinese). One of her sisters can speak English, Cantonese, Madarin, Punjabi, Italian. She is fluent in all 5.

I like the English and translator combo meal.

basic sherdog english+ciao! to tourist bitches

I buckled down on the Spanish before I went to South America. I barely had to use it. English is Goat.

Your wife i can believe. Cantonese, manadrian combo does exist and adding english i am sure it happens. But punjabi? how good is the punjabi...

I have hard time believing her sister. 5 all fluent? well i can believe A2 in several or B1 but higher than that is really really difficult. at what level? look at the chart

French comes in handy in Africa. But you're right.

check out new maps i added. The reason I listed arabic, spanish, chinese, russian, and then hindi, portuguese, is because those regions of the world do not have highest amount of english speakers. You know check these links see yourself. With world becoming more multipolar i think it inevitable that regionalization happen again and english wont be the preferred. USA cannot stay dominate forever. But that another story. And yes english is only so powerful at this point globally because the US let not pretend like the UK or australia is the global power.

Even the EU which i would say globally the countries in it have highest % of english speakers. Does not have that high of % in certain countries.

Lol at you largely dismissing the number of cantonese and mandarin speakers by saying "it exists". Yeah only like 200 million or so people

English, Chinese, = God mode especially as good looking latino or white guy in China. Could also live in singapore or enclaves in other south east countries where chinese overseas can be. If 1 billion speak english at good level in world, add 1,3 billion for chinese speakers most who do not speak good english.

English, Spanish= except for brazil and haiti the western hemisphere is yours. Spain to. Know spanish add over 550 million other speakers most whom do not speak great english.

English, French, Spanish= just awesome combo.

English, Russia= the former Soviet union countries today CIS countries and baltics are open to you. Also surprsingly used in mongolia by some. Some close to 300 million. Might grow as eurasian union and SCO expand with Russian.

English, Arabic= Arabic world is like 350 million strong. Over 20 countries speak it. Not easiest to travel to many closed off like former soviet sphere is and some dangerous. But if you like it go for it.

English, Arabic, French= God mode for Anglo countries, France, western switzerland, belgium, luxembourg, quebec, north africa. Most middle east.

more rare combos.

English, Spanish, Portuguese= Probably the best most fun combo for Anglos or westerners to want to know. Unlock brazil and portugal.

English, French, Spanish,

English, french, italian, spanish.

Super rare combos:

English, Chinese, Russian= You got east asia, former soviet sphere on lock. I feel whoever has this combo at a high fluent level is in a league above all others in world. I have only 1 person who could do this and they were low intermediate chinese level but will be good in years time.

English, Chinese, Hindi,

English, Chinese, Hindi, Russian

IMPOSSIBLE! (not really) but probably handfuls on earth and the B2 or higher level fluency in each is not likely.

+4 languages at +B2 fluency... quite rare especially if they are ACTUALLY different languages and not different dialects or similar like an italian knowing spanish, and learning english and then french.

English, Chinese, Hindi, Russian, Arabic, Spanish,

English, Japanese, Chinese, Russian,

English, Chinese, Spanish, Russian,

English, Chinese, Hindi, Russian,

English, Chinese, Arabic, Russian

etc.

Pro tip, “portinaul”(I know I misspelled that horribly) is basic street launguage in Brazil. Mix of Portuguese and Spanish.

Spanish speakers do fine in Brazil and can understand most things and be understood.

To me Portuguese is almost like a mash up of Spanish and French.

If you speak Spanish you can get by down there and learn the nuances fairly quickly.

Italy also, almost same as Spanish with slight differences in spelling and pronunciation for most things. Lots the same.

Arguentinian Spanish can throw you for a loop until you learn the pronouncement differences as well.

I'm fluent in spanish, german, portuguese and english. It helps a lot.

I don't really speak it but also understand french and italian.

1. English
2. Mandarin - the "english" of China
3. Russian - Former USSR states still use it.
4. Spanish - easy entry to romance languages

I suppose it depends on what you want it for. French has gotten me laid a bunch and obviously came in handy when I was living in France and visiting Morocco. Spanish has helped out and once upon a time I spoke decent Swedish but never really used it other than with friends and have since forgotten nearly all of it.
