Best gloves for wrist support ?

Are these going to be used solely for sparring? Definitely get separate gloves for each, and keep your sparring pair just for sparring.

Rival's a good brand. I've got a pair of RB3 bag gloves and a few guys in my gym have other models, including their RS2V sparring gloves.

Boon are supposed to be, from what I hear a more compact glove.

They are used for pad work and sparring I'm afraid I know I should have different gloves but the issue I have is my wrists

You can get bag gloves with good wrist support. Just look into any of the "super" bag glove types. They're basically made the same as sparring gloves, but using foam/padding better suited to a heavy bag. Like Rival Boxing and MMA Europe Bag Gloves - Rival RB20 which are basically the bag version of their sparring glove. I'm not sure what your budget is like,

Your sparring gloves will last longer, and will be less harsh on your sparring opponents.

You can always ask one of your training partners if you could try his gloves for a round or so.

I also have extremely delicate wrists and have found that at least for me, avoiding pain comes down to the finer points of technique. Pain is usually a matter of bending my wrist either too much, or not enough. Even after two years I had to take a month off due to an ankle injury, and when I went back to training, my wrists were hurting again because after a month of just shadowboxing and not hitting anything solid, my technique had slipped again. I recommend lots of light bag work. Just focus on how your body and especially your wrist is shaped when you make contact. Work on finding something that feels comfortable. When my technique is dead on, there's not much difference between my new $90 gel bag gloves, and my 2 year old $20 ringsides.
Hope that helps.

Sorry but what do you mean by bending your wrist, in clinch ?

Good handwraps and good wrapping technique would help a lot, I had bad pain in my wrist and also knuckles until I bought Fairtex BGL-7 I swear by that glove ever since.

I was about to recommend BGL-7 too. Ive been using my Grant Campeon on the bag lately and tweaked my wrist a few times, I never had this problem when I was using my BGL-7.

THey have them on sale at ringside for $69.99, unfortunately only 14oz. & 18oz.

when you throw a punch, your wrist needs to be slightly bent inwards to insure you strike with the first knuckles of the index and middle finger. Using a straight wrist will cause you to make contact with the 2nd knuckles and will damage your hands and wrists in all kinds of ways. A lot of people get away with bad form but those of us with skinny wrists and/or small hands really can't afford to. Like I said before, it's a very precise angle, working on striking something solid in a very slow and controlled manner is the best way to find it. If you don't have access to a heavy bag, even just working with a pillow or something will help you get used to always landing with those two knuckles.

you could try the ringside imf's onsale for 35$. Or the boons will probably be much better for wrist support then the twins from what I hear. Oddly, the everlast pro leather training gloves (origionaly 89.99) have pretty good wrist support. better then the rival hook and loop sparring gloves that are 119 or something. You can find those everlasts on sale for arround 50. Kind of a hit and miss. older versions of it have better leather ect, newer ones may have shitty cranftsmanship :p

The Fairtex BGL-7 are lace up guys, it would be impossible for me to train in those constantly taking them on and off

Can't really get good everlast stuff in the UK, only cheap basic stuff at best

My budget is whatever it takes really, if I carry on like this ill have to stop and id be devastated

Here was my pair with hook and loop convertors. Worked like a charm.

Never seen that done before, I can't see that being that supportive if I'm honest

Been looking more and more at the rival stuff seems they are the only company around doing anything special for wrist support

Brun,

You might want to check out some of the models with double locking wrist closures like the Hayabusas, Combats Sports models with DURA Lock or other makers with similar closures. I personally have the Hayabusas and the wrist support is good.

Yea that's what's making me think rival gloves might be a good choice

Or maybe even hayabusa, hmmm

Just a heads up, I don't have personal experience with them, but the Hayabusa sparring gloves are generally considered to be a little stiff/hard in the padding. Great more for bag/pad work, but a little harsh for sparring.

I don't know if they've changed them, recently, though.

to be honest i dont hit that hard when im sparring anyway, i do muay thai mainly for fitness/self defence/ etc etc, im not training for competition and even with my huge Twins 16oz pillows on im always afraid of injuring someone, i reckon i could easily get away with 12oz gloves sparring lol, i weigh about 165lb
