I think its safe to say Goodfellas would easily and should easily win this poll. So, Goodfellas aside what is the best gangster film of the 90s?

For me

1. Heat
2. Pulp
3. True romance
4. Carlitos way
5. Donnie brasco

Why doesn't it? Labeled as a gangster film and the Synopsis even says gangster in it lol
I think, even though you excluded Goodfellas, it's still at the forefront of my mind as something that is very much a Gangster film, whereas Pulp fiction feels like a roller coaster ride that just happens to have gangsters in it hahaha

Goodfellas

The Krays should maybe have been on there! Pretty solid 1990 effort on the two psycho brothers from UK.

At what point is a movie more of an assassin/action film more than a gangster movie? Like if you are including leon the professional on this list then I think you should have put no country for old men on the 2000s list, also sicario too

Amazing really looking back that Goodfellas, Millers Crossing and King of Newyork all came out within a week of each other in the US, I'd guess the hype around Godfather 3 meant Hollywood wanted gangster films.

That felt like it was really the end point of the "classy gangster epic drama" which started to dominate big gangster films with the original Godfather to me, I spose you had Casino to come and Carlito's Way a few years latter although even that I think was shifting more towards thriller which really became more what gangster films were going forward.
