I know there's a lot of musicians and/or music lovers in here. Being from Denver, I could probably put about 8 or so bands that I knew or played on bills with over the years that I thought were absolutely incredible and was very surprised things didn't work out for them. I've got one in particular in mind, but first, I'll let some of you guys go with your stories and videos and then I'll put mine later...

Malignus Youth. Still one of my favorite bands of all time. They started out as a typical punk band and ended as one of the most unique sounds I have ever heard. Fan base was rabid. They did a reunion show last year after not playing for close to 20 years and still had a little under a thousand people show up, many flying in from out of town.

As I said they were a punk rock band and ended up just outright unique. Here is one of the last things they recorded, The Missa Brevis, a freaking mass with all traditional lyrics sung in Latin.

Not sure who the best band from my hometown is

But this is a band from my hometown that I really enjoy

Two bands in, I do like both of those.

Here's mine. They actually started off as a metal band, very Pantera influenced. I never even liked Pantera, but the singer had amazing charisma and vocal ability. He had the crowd by the balls in about two seconds, which I had not seen before on a local level at all, and only occasionally on a big time level, honestly.

They eventually changed their name and did one album as a sort of retro-grunge band, harkening back to the golden era of MTV, very AIC inspired stuff. This particular video blew me away, was done locally on no budget by the same singer I was talking about earlier. He not only made the music, but the video as well!

Shortly after this, he left to go sing for a much bigger band (that is good, but I don't actually like nearly as much as this), while the others disbanded and committed to their regular jobs.

Here is another band with a few members of people I used to go to high school with

They almost made it but broke up

Not a band, but I'm surprised Mac Dre never made it to the mainstream. Maybe his stint in jail in the early 90's killed any shot he had.

Tommy Bolin count? or just over looked & forgotten?

I'd say these guys made it.

On the other hand, these guys kinda fizzled

How do you define "making it"? My answer will depend on how loosely it's interpreted

There was nothing even approaching a listenable band from my town, and i knew them all.

My friend would put on shows in his basement and all the shitty bands from around town, as well as neighboring towns, would come play. We all sucked something fierce.

How do you define "making it"? Slint never had any real mainstream success, but they were without a doubt one of the most influential bands of the early 90s.
