Best 308 Semi-Auto Rifle?

no, are they good quality?

If you want a cheap alternative to a main "battle" rifle, its the cheapest one out there.

There were complaints about Izhmash's quality control a couple years back but I believe they've turned it around.

I dont think Legion or Arsenal currently import any 308s modified to AK style and 922r complaint though. You'd have to do it yourself with a stock version but thats a cakewalk.

I've got a Saiga .308 that I'm getting ready to convert. The main issue was with magazines, but there are a couple of companies that are starting to make good ones (Uinta, Csspecs, etc.).

Wow... never realized I'd have so many questions after one post, lol.

1. AR10s, are they as reliable as AR15's? Or close to AK47s?

2. Never knew about SASSs, are they the elite AR10s?

3. Which scopes would you suggest? I'm looking for something that would fit with flip-up iron sights.

1. Yes, as long as you don't buy a cheap one.

2. They are set up for long range accuracy, which is what you were looking for. Also, as mentioned look at the REPR. Someone mentioned the PTR, also a very nice rifle. Paratrooper model is sick but the action is rough on brass, which only matters if you reload.

3. There is a ridiculous selection of scopes to choose from, and good glass is not cheap. Expect to spend as much on this as you do on the rifle. I recommend researching this extensively before you purchase, and if you want to use backup iron sights just get a quick attach base for the scope.

I find myself wanting a PTR-91 but the ammo is just too expensive. I already cry about .40 prices lol.

Lol thats why I sold my FA91. I was buying ATI 7.62 for 10 bucks a box and then they upped it to 13 bucks.

But now I find myself wanting a 50 Beowulf upper...go figure lol

are they worth the extra dough? iyo?

If they weren't they wouldn't hold that value. Although at my local gun store they recommend a FAL variant, over the Springfield.

If I had the extra 1500 to spend I would go with the Springfield.
But if you can deal with w bolt action:

Of the three I am most likely to purchase the Ruger, even though I would rather have the Springfield.

The more research I do on the Scar 17, the more I like it.

One thing though, does anyone know why it only has 10 or 20 round magazines and not 30?

I love the HK91, but it does beat up the brass if you care about reloading. I think they are big bucks now, if even available, but what a nice battle rifle...

30 rounds of 7.62 Nato is hard on a magazine spring and retention.
The M1A retains its value mostly due to name appeal. Functionally its not any better than a lot of its contemporaries and maintenance wise its a bit worse then most. Keeping an M1A up to sub MOA spec is a shiat load harder than doing the same on an AR-10 for instance.

I'd go with the M1A for a battle rifle. Bolt-action is good for a sniper rifle, but it wouldn't be good if you were in the thick of things. The M14 is a proven design. Still being used in some places, I believe, and of course, our own guys squirreled away as many of them as they could. Lol.
