I'm in the market for 308 that's semi-automatic, that's very accurate (yes, I know ammo quality matters) and is reliable (as an AK-74).

So far my choices are...

1. Waiting for an ACR .308 conversion, because this is my dream rifle. But Magpul has no plans to release that in the near future.

2. FAL - Highly accurate and reliable, never liked the design though.

3. Scar 17 - Basicly the ACR .308 I was wanting, but it's about a grand more ($2600)

4. AK-74 - The AK-47's little sister, battle proven and it's reliability is unrivaled. Infact, I'm leaning toward this one in this ad, the accessories are killer.

Anyone's opinions are encouraged, plz.

AK 74's are 5.45x39, and that round has very different ballistics than the .308, so I'm not sure you really want to include that in your search. It's a much smaller round with considerably less powder behind it. They do make Saiga's chambered in .308 though, so if you like the AK platform, I believe that should be your starting point.

Ah, should've noticed that in the fine print. That nixes that option. Thanks.

La rue tactical OBR, even the 16" will hit out to 700 all day

LWRC REPR

and if you have tons of money get an Knights sr-25

top 2 are right at 3,000 and the Sr at 5,000

Too expensive for long-range only. Looking for something for close-to-long range.

I'm making a stretch considering a Scar 17, and that's because that's my ultimate rifle.

Top tier choices above, also DPMS is a bit less $ for an AR10 and the ones I've shot ran well and were very accurate. Check out the SASS.

What scopes are you looking at?

Wow... never realized I'd have so many questions after one post, lol.

1. AR10s, are they as reliable as AR15's? Or close to AK47s?

2. Never knew about SASSs, are they the elite AR10s?

3. Which scopes would you suggest? I'm looking for something that would fit with flip-up iron sights.

Had myself a FA91 (HK91 clone) and it shot like a champ for me. Sold it though. Probably will get myself a 50 Beowulf upper next time around instead of .30 jus for the hell of it lol

There is an AK variant in .308. That is the Saiga. It is imported in sporter configuration, but can be converted back to AK status. It is reliable, and fairly accurate. You can buy one already converted ($$$) or buy the Saiga yourself and do the conversion. A Google search will turn up conversion videos, it's not hard at all- mainly grinding off a couple of rivets- and put a few parts on the gun (new trigger set, butt stock).

Another .308 that's very reliable is the CETME. CAI built a bunch of them, and while CAI is known for making less-than-perfect guns, the CETMEs are usually okay, and the St Albans are the pick of the litter, made on a stainless receiver- they are usually done right, and can be found for around $600 or so. Look for 'St. Albans' stamped on the receiver.

Thats a really good deal on a PTR.
That used to be the topline price for one back when they were still owned by JLD. Got mine back in 2005 or so. The issues you will have with a PTR is that they will destroy the shiat out of your brass so reloading isnt an option. The ergonomics on them suck to high heaven, and accessories are far and few between and expensive at that. The only thing cheap about running an HK91 clone are that mags are plentiful and cheaper than dirt.

SIG 716 is pretty sweet. And SIG reliability is top notch. There are several configurations from SBR to DMR.
The link is just to the basic patrol model so you'll have to surf the site a bit.

Standard/Hunting Rifle - Savage 10

FAL is easier on brass and has an adjustable gas system. Prolongs brass life.

HK91/PTR/CMFE are brass killers. The delayed roller system is inherently brutal on brass.

I know what you mean. I used to have an FA91. A lot of people talk shit about it but I must have been a lucky owner because mine was flawless. The fluted barrel does make it suck for reloaders but I dont reload, so it was never an issue for me. Thing weighs a ton and I really cant stand the HK barrel rear sight but it was a fun toy to have. The ergos never bothered me much.

The tame recoil is a definite plus for the DRS action though.

Yea CAI are a bunch of mickey mouses. They bought out Federal Arms and kinda fucked up the good rep FA had with the FA91. They would grind down the bolt face to get "correct" headspacing. LOL. fucking monkeys over there.

does anybody know where I can get a Springfield M1A for around $1000?
