Stupid match-making. When guy likes to stand up and strike, the other likes to fight safe, and he will go for the takedown.
Strikers should be matched with strikers. Grapplers should be matched with grapplers. Unless it is a title shot or contender fight that can't be avoided.

Fight safe? Have you only seen his Michael Johnson fight?Stupid match-making. When guy likes to stand up and strike, the other likes to fight safe, and he will go for the takedown.

We are the beyond the point of "If a grappler can't handle a striker, or striker can't handle a grappler" mentality. Most fighters learn to grapple and strike, and we should expect them to be competent in both areas.Respectfully, I disagree. If a grappler can’t handle a striker, or striker can’t handle a grappler down the line then they have no business sniffing a title fight.
The only way people should be able to climb the ranks is if their overall game is well rounded enough to handle any type of fight.
Doesn’t mean they have to excel, but take a guy like prime Chuck Liddell or prime Crocop, primarily strikers who could either defend the takedown or get back to the feet when needed forcing their opponents to fight their fight.
