Wondering which exercise is better? Bench pull is basically the opposite of a bench press, lying face down, pull up barbell..

Thanks

Bent Over Row rapes bench pull like a :eek::eek::eek:phile with the olsen twins 9 years ago.

Pullups -vs- Bent Over Rows is a tie imho.

BOR is better for mass and develops some great core stabalization.

Pullups is better for coordinated muscle contractions and body control.

If I were a grappler and I had to pick one, it would be weighted pullups.

However, you're just some dude so do both.

Leave that bench pull shit alone. It's teh ghey.

Oh and row fucking heavy. Rowing is a power exercise like bench/squat/deadlift.

I'd love to see that as a competative lift.

Squat, Bench, Deadlift, Bent Over Row.

2 upper body, 2 lower body.

Bench pull has its place. But if i had to choose one i would go with the BO-rows.

Bent over rows have much greater range of motion.

haha, yah that is pretty much what I do whenever I post in this forum. LOL

The only possible point to doing bench pulls is to mimic face pulls if you don't have access to cables IMO.

BOR > pullups > bench pulls

from a muscle development standpoint, rows involves more 'upper back' (traps), and pullups work more lats. as far as lifting for MMA, i'd rather to cleans.

Carnal why don't you give pull ups a try?

YOu said you have only done close grip and have very limited experience in them.

I don't recall saying I only have done closegrips, if I did say such a thing, I was out of my skull on drugs. What you may have read, and what is true, is that as of right now I only have the set-up to do them narrow grip or parrallel grip.

I gave them a fair run when I first got into "real" lifting, and I weighed about 240 at the time. I would do three different types, wide grip overhand, normal grip overhand, narrow grip underhand. I couldn't do a ton of reps at once, but my overall reps in a session were decent.

My back just really didn't blossom until I started rowing heavy again. It also is much better for a "lifter" (as opposed to a fighter) in that it is much better DL assistance.

I wouldn't say it's better for a lifter. In my opinion the bent over row is one of the best lifts for fighters, especially grapplers. For me I don't look at it as an assistance exercise but a key strength exercise. Even more important (for a fighter) than say, the bench press.

I would agree that the row is more important than thte bench press for a fighter, any back excercise is.

My distinction between fighters and lifters was because the chin-up is of much greater utility to a fighter, so they're use vs. BOR's is definately a matter of choice, although there is no reason both can't be employed.
