TLDR: Big Ben's non stop pressure and adamantium chin would pose a fuckload of problems for Overeem, even in his conservative Econoreem form

So Overeem has been on a huge run lately, leading a lot of people to believe he can likely avenge all of his UFC losses. While I think this is a high possibility for Browne and an almost certain possibility for what's left of Bigfoot Silva, I do not think Econoreem defeats Rothwell. Obviously it's possible, it's the HW division, but it would be a retardedly difficult task.

A lot of people's analysis of the first fight was that Overeem was outstriking Rothwell and just happened to get caught by an overhand and lost. That's not how I interpreted it. Rothwell basically came out, no fucks given, and stalked the absolute shit out of Reem. The entire time, he's eating all of his strikes and kicks without even budging, all while timing his uppercut and overhand. Not only did Rothwell eat all of his strikes, but even before the KO, he stuffed a takedown and wobbled Reem with an uppercut shortly thereafter. Then came the KO.

One of the biggest reasons this matchup is hard for Reem is because of Rothwell's style, but also because of his chin. Rothwell legitimately has one of the best chins of all time. It's actually Mark Hunt tier.

He was trying to get up while Cain was punching him:

Walked into a fucking overhand from Hunt, who then tried to walk away thinking the fight was over:

Got hit with a baseball swing overhand from JDS and only took 1 step backwards:

Ate a spinning back-elbow from Schaub:

Arlovski did stop him with strikes, but Arlovski has cracked 3 legendary chins himself in Cabbage, Roy Nelson, and Rothwell. He basically hit Rothwell with everything and the kitchen sink.

Reem going for a KO would not only be really difficult to pull off, but would also leave him open to counters from Big Ben who's always dangerous no matter what.

I think Econoreem's best chance would be to outpoint him, but can you confidently say that with Rothwell's non-stop pressure style that he wouldn't eventually land something? Reem has still shown defensive woes recently, including getting rocked by Roy Nelson and getting backed up against the cage against AA and unloaded on. Granted, Reem blocked a lot of those punches, but Rothwell is way more aggressive than the AA that fought Reem. Imagine Reem getting backed up against the cage like that multiple times.

Rothwell wins this one. Better cardio, granite chin, decent ground game and he hits like a truck. Unless overeem point fights and avoids eating a big shot and doesn't gas he loses.

Yes, Reem has no chin. Rothwell via TKO.

I think if Overeem fights like he has been, he does what JDS did to Rothwell, except Reem gets the finish. I mean, the one hitter quitter is always a possibility in a Reem fight, but I still think Reem takes it.

Yeah dude I think Rothwell is Eco Reem's worst matchup he's got a granite chin and I just see him backing Reem into the cage and going bezerk for a knockout.

Reem wins more often than not, and yes it could happen by finish. Reem has absolutely shown he can effectively game plan and execute to winning fights against dangerous opponents.

I think he is but just because he has insane ability to take shots, also it's likely that he will connect at some point and we all know how good reem's chin is.

He did it against JDS, but JDS was also extremely cautious in that fight. Pretty much the polar opposite of how Big Ben fights. I also don't see Big Ben getting finished by one punch in that fashion. Possible, of course, but highly unlikely given the insane strikes he's taken.

Wow I'd forgotten just how fast that finish actually was. I was hoping it was a little more drawn out. That's disappointing, those slow-motion GIFs spoiled me.

And I'm not a Reem fan at all.

Rothwell is objectively not a can. He has a TKO win over one of the best strikers the HW division has ever seen and a submission win over Barnett. Come on.

Great points and gifs, good read.

Except it's he's evolved and is now Calcureem. Econoreem was more focused on saving energy while Calcureem is a model which saves energy and calculates as well.

I think Rothwell's a nightmare for anyone and takes years off their carrers...he really did a number on Cain and I think is partially responsible for the wear on him.

I was really glad he didn't fight Stipe... Miocic would have won but taken a lot of damage.

Rothwell's just a juggernaut and while he's got a very sloppy style and mostly loses he always takes and gives a huge amount of damage in the process. I like the guy but hate seeing him fight any new prospects for that reason.

It's just unthinkable someone can take a shot from Hunt like that.

That JDS fight really made me look at Rothwell in a negative light. His striking is so sloppy, and when he was put in there with a boxer who knew about footwork and angles he looked completely lost. He could put pressure on Reem but if he's fighting smart like he has been he has the striking technique to outclass Rothwell too. I could see Rothwell submitting him though.

Expect to see Rothwell river dance gif. Rothwell is tough guy but just doesn't have to skills to be champ, shit whats I said about Bisping. You never know might step in on a title fight on short notice and KO the champ.

I just think his win against Reem was a fluke.

I could see Overeem just out strike him all day. Rothwell's chin is rediculous so he will likely get a bunch of chances to land on Reem.

Prediction: Reem by body kicks!

Yeah, that's mostly the reason why I think he could outpoint Big Ben, but I also thought the "JDS got his soul taken by Cain and will never be the same again" stuff was being way overdone too. I thought JDS actually did a great job in that fight. That punch JDS landed on Ben would've finished pretty much everyone in the division except Ben himself.

I also still think JDS is more durable than Reem despite the outcome of their fight, so it's hard to imagine Rothwell not landing one solid blow on him. And I think Reem's pretty great but I don't know if he has a single come from behind victory in 50+ fights

I like Ben, was pulling for him vs JDS...not sure what happened to him in that fight. Even in that loss he proved he's tough as fuck.

Yep, totally agree. Ben would take the rematch, Overeem could outpoint him though, but I'd just feel like it'd be a matter of time till he gets his chin tagged.
