Ben Askren vs Jake Shields

Calm down big guy, the reference was obviously pure grappling. Btw, Funky wasn't "playfully" rolling with MG, he was trying to survive in the deep end, the whole time. Just to remind you, and others...

Check out 6:35.

Haha, it's all good, was responding to someone else in the thread that said Shields would clearly win because he was tapping Ben while rolling. I agree that Shields would win a pure grappling sub orientated match, but with punches and MMA, I think it would look different. I just think about that one time Galvao fought TWood, and got so badly brutalized that he retired; on the other hand, Galvao would toy with Woodley in a sub only format.

Why are people still talking about Ben Askren?

Dude passed on fighting the best in favor of being a bitter neckbeard in Southeast Asia.

You clearly dont understand how shady the UFC and Bellator were trying to play him....

The UFC asked Askren to get out of his Bellator matching cclause so they can make him an offer.

Ben Askren gets rid of his matching clause, then the UFC and Bellator start publicly shitting on him trying to lower his value.

Bjorn was saying 'Bellator isn't interested.' and Dana saying 'Ambien takes Askren to go to sleep."

Keep in mind, at the time, Askren was a 13-0 undefeated champion and ex-gold medalist.

Askren goes to Vegas and gets an offer from the UFC that he accepts. Strangely, the offer the UFC made Askren had him taking his first fight in WSOF.

The UFC rescinds the offer 6 hours later and publicly states there will be no offer for Askren.

Then Dana says to the media 'Askren should sign with WSOF.'

Keep in mind that at this point Bellator and the UFC have bboth publicly stated that they arent making Askren an offer (despite Askren being the undefeated bellator ww champ). WSOF thought they could lowball Askren because they were the only game left in town.

Little did anyone know, a new Aian promotion was willing to have an American from the midwest as the face of their competitors.

So Askren recieved 2 main offfers. One from WSOF (who thought they were the only promotion in consideration) and another offer from ONE, which Askren accepted.

Askren had another period wwhere the UFC could pick him up, but they wanted to pay less for him than ONE was currently paying. Needless to say, that didn't happen....

It would be infinitely more competitive than GSP/Askren, that's for sure.

Jon Fitch beat Shields by having better wrestling, and Askren has better wrestling.
