I see the "best fights" argument a lot but I don't think it really stands up.
Here are the sticking points:
-The UFC claims to have the best fighters in the world.
-Ben Askren is one of the best fighters in the world.
-Ben Askren does not fight in the UFC.
and guess what.... The UFC still has the best fighters in the world.
The UFC Welterweight division is far and away the best Welterweight division in MMA. Nothing even comes remotely close. Would it be nice for them to have Askren? Sure, and it would definitely answer some questions, but do they NEED to have Askren to "have the best fighters in the world"? Nope.
So the UFC can live just fine WITHOUT Askren, and Askren claims he is happy in OneFC then why the fuck can't Ben Askren finish a sentence without bringing up the UFC?
Why can't he just do his thing? He wants to fight in OneFC and make money, good for him. He doesn't want to sign with the UFC (who recently stated they were "open to the idea of doing business with Ben") then he doesn't have to.... but if that is the case then why is he so obsessed about the UFC? Why is he taking pictures with a Dana White doll and acting full on Single White Female obsessed about Dana White and the UFC?
In recent interviews Ben barely even talks about OneFC. Maybe there just isn't much to talk about, he is leaps and bounds ahead of the competition they have to offer him, but that is where he signed.
He is CHOOSING to act in such a manner that will permanently close the door to fight in the UFC, placing him in a safe spot of never having to face a current top 20 fighter. He just had a title fight against a guy outside the top 80 and his "top contender" Brock Larson (at least that is what I hear) was ranked about 117 last I checked. So he seemingly has chosen to make money rather than try and prove to be the best in the world, which most would argue would have to be done in the UFC where the vast majority of top ranked fighters are currently fighting.
It was proven long ago that the UFC would do just fine without a single top level fighter who didn't fight with them and Fedor was a MUCH bigger draw and had proven himself at a MUCH higher level. The UFC survived not having Fedor, they will survive not having Ben Askren. (even though they now say they are open to it, we will see if that continues to ring true as Ben continues to assault the UFC thru any and all forms of media he has access to)
It is Ben talking crap, it is Ben taking cheap shots and from everything I have seen the only thing Dana ever did was give his honest opinion when asked directly about Ben Askren by the media.
Bellator didn't offer Ben, their reigning champ, a contract. The UFC matched that deal and did not offer him a deal either. They said if he won a few more fights, preferably against better known competition they might reconsider and even though he hasn't fought better known competition the UFC seemed willing to negotiate at which point Ben went on a full blown war against the UFC, thereby lessening any chances of him having to face a top guy. Praise him all you want, but he is the one making the moves that are going to seal the deal on his entire career being fought outside of the top level of competition.
If certain fighters would rather fight in Singapore, that is their choice, but the UFC still has "the best fighters" by miles compared to any of their competitors, even without Ben Askren.... believe it or not the UFC is not responsible for making deals with fighters that show by their actions that they don't want to be UFC employees.
