I mean there was a load of hype of him getting in the UFC. Some even thought he was a threat to GSP. UFC traded him by using a top fighter in Demetrius Johnson and then everything went downhill.

  • Nearly got murked from Robbie + questionable stoppage on debut
  • Was on the receiving end of the most quickest and embarrassing KOs in UFC history.
  • Got outclassed by Maia (who is a legend and legit as they come.)
Before you get your panties in a bunch, I don't like Ben but respect him for stepping up against an OG like Maia. However I'll be honest, his striking is comical lol.

Now he can make adjust and beat most low ranked WW but what happens to him now?

Fighting and beating cans your whole career will give you a sense of being better then you actually are.

Long story short, He’s a bust.

Askren is UFC caliber, but he is not high level and will simply not come close to touching the belt.

His wrestling will still obviously get him some wins over guys with average ground game or TDD.

UFC caliber? Yet he just tapped out like a woman.

Askren, Till and Masvidal are all bad-to-mediocre fighters.
Colby/Usman will be a more entertaining fight than Diaz vs Masvidal.
Wonderboy/Luque is the best fight on the MSG card.

Before Askren was in the UFC, I always thought that if he'd some day join, Dana would fuck him over and feed him to Maia. He did better against Maia than I thought tho.

He is possibly the most overrated fighter I've ever seen. Complete bust is an understatement.

Ben was never a good fighter
good wrestler but he was always going to get exposed in the UFC

:p
Maybe one more fight?!
I don't tire with seeing him get finished.

So I don't understand this. Can we not at least give credit to Maia's brilliant jiu jitsu game? I mean look, askren never matched up well with maia begin with. Ben's biggest strength plays right into maia's biggest strength. I suspect maia is askren's biggest challenge of anybody in that division.

Askren doesn't have the striking to match most everybody else in the division. He does have the ability out-wrestle everybody maybe except colby and usman. by that, I mean they probably have competent enough wrestling to negate askren's takedowns. So outside of colby, usman, and maia, I don't see many people that create this type of bad match-up. I get that masvidal destroyed him. That's the fight game, and that's why they fight, because we never know. But masvidal is a better match-up for askren than maia and colby and usman. Not saying askren should be dominating the division, but he's a good fighter due to his wrestling. If you take away his wrestling, he wouldn't stand a chance against anybody in that division. But he does have it. And it has to be dealt with. Maia was able to capitalize but did we expect anything less from maia?

He can probably hang in the top 10 and just dry hump people who cant stop the takedown.

His striking is the worst I've seen outside of Rin Nakai.

Bad luck with Masvidal and Maia was a terrible match up for him.
The UFC could/should have fed him a striker or two with no wrestling if they wanted to build him up but I guess they just wanted to see him lose.

HMMM.. seemed like a back and forth affair to me until he was choked out..

His luck of being able to still win with one skillset has clearly run out.
