Can someone explain the situation there to me? Obviously fights get sanctioned there that never should. Which is a damn shame.

Well, there was one recent example of two men fighting where one (Dada 5000) almost died in the ring because his heart gave out and the other now died a couple weeks later, namely Kimbo Slice, because his heart gave out. I cannot imagine that either of these fighters should have been cleared if there had been a proper examination beforehand.

You're absolutely right.

Essentially, Bellator leaves it up to the commissions to do all the oversight. Not all commissions are created equal, and Bellator knows how to play the game.

Chances are, Kimbo v Dada 5000 and Shamrock v Gracie 3 would have never been sanctioned in a state with a strong commission, like California, Nevada, Massachussetts. Texas uses something called Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, and they are one of the most lenient states (if not the most) when it comes to sanctioning events.

Then you must also consider Zach Light was removed from Bellator for questioning Coker's staff's methods for making matches and he even goes so far to claim the medical examination process is not legitimate.

Then you must consider Kimbo's performance against Dada 5000- he nearly collapsed due to exhaustion, tested positive for a banned substance, and what does Bellator do? Book him for another fight in the UK.

And guess what? The UK does not have a government-imposed MMA regulatory body. MMA promotions there regulate themselves.

I think you can draw your own conclusions.

Bellator has blood on its hands imo. And so has the "Commission".

They initially hosted events on Indian reservations to circumvent the commission altogether. I think the fight you mentioned specifically was contested under the authority of the Texas commission, which is historically a more laissez-faire regulatory body. I said it before and I'll say it again: these sort of freakshow fights, for lack of a better word, have very unfortunate consequences.

While I certainly can’t say if Bellator is ensuring fighters are checked properly, Kimbo’s death could very well just be one of those things. People in their 30s and 40s die every day due to heart problems, many with absolutely no sign beforehand.
But you can bet your ass they're puckered up right now. They'll be dotting the "I"s and crossing the "T"s from now on. One would hope.

And LOL at “a couple weeks”.

What does the examination for Bellator fighters consist of? A flashlight to the mouth and banging their knee with an rubber hammer? If Kimbo had a condition, it should have easily been detected with a thorough exam/physical. I mean compared to UFC fighters. Dan Hardy and Stefan Struve had their conditions diagnosed easily. Why didn't this happen with Kimbo?

This plus the DADA 5000 thing can't be good for them when they go to court.

Its on the commissions but they did go to Texas cause its a shit commission that would sanction fights like that. Same with going to Missouri.

These commissions arent NJ, Cali and Vegas. What kind of medicals were done? With better commissions I'd be confident the proper testing was done.

Now that doesnt mean people cant die or have issues even after they were fully tested and cleared but with Texas being a commission most think is a joke and Bellator being accused of forging medicals it looks bad.

And then when Bellator goes overseas where they regulate themselves things can get tricky. For all the dumb shit UFC does they have Ratner for overseas events. They've pulled fighters like Duffy right before an event. They drug test and bust guys on their own.

Booking Kimbo right after failing a PED test and taking him to a place with no commission didnt look good.

If you're gonna make a thread, make an actual thread, TS. Not just an accusatory title with no substance.
