News Bellator, PFL Distance Themselves From Signing Yoel Romero

This is insane. You’ll sign Corey Anderson but not YOEL ROMERO

Scott Coker is an idiot
I would assume is more about how much Yoel Romero makes per fight plus his age. It is impossible to tell how many solid fights you can squeeze out of Romero at this point. He is 43 and has been in some serious wars, so I wouldnt spend too much money on him.

Ok i see many here being outraged. Bellator refused to sign Yoel for the same reason UFC cut him. His PAY. We all know UFC are cheap fucks so the 350k they paid Romero could be used to fund salaries of 10 newbies.

This is what Bellator Champions received in their last fight ( and don't mention me about sponsors, its been proven time and again that the MMA sponsorship market is dud and fighters aren't exactly making bank)

Mousasi- 200k
Lima- 150k
Bader- 300k
Pitbull- 200k
Rory- 200k

Romero- 350k

Now look at the above salaries and ask yourself if their champions get paid this then do you think a 44yr old Romero would get paid anything above 100k? Why would Bellator even bother offering a fighter 1/4 his previous salary knowing very well he would reject it.?

At the end of the day its all business.
Romero got paid 350k only when he was fighting for the belt, and since he is damn good at his job, he fought for the belt a lot in the last years.
Against Costa and Weidman he got 150k and 130k, which isn't crazy for a high level fighter.

MMA fans are the weirdest of all, first everyone complains about Bellator signing UFC cast offs, now everyone is outraged by Bellator not signing UFC cast offs. It is not Romero not being on "Bellator standards" (whatever that means), or about Bellator wanting to distance themselves from the UFC (which they are trying to do). Its all about the money, Yoel Romero is not worth $350k a fight to Bellator, its just that simple. He wasnt worth it to the UFC, much less he is going to be worth it for Bellator.

UFC can profit off of TV deals and PPV. These other organizations probably need gate revenue in order to be profitable, so it's understandable that they are not looking to add expensive contracts in the covid era

If you are referring to me, I am not pissed off that Bellator isn't going to sign him, I am pissed off that the UFC cut him in the first place and then, and only then, that Bellator and PFL aren't going to sign him.

As a fan I could care less about UFC or Bellator finances, a fighter plus or minus isn't going to make a big difference for them.
But Romero was must see tv in my opinion, and now they are forcing him to retire, or going for the bareknuckle boxing thing.

I'm not referring to anyone in particular, just the general consensus of the thread. In fact, I agree with you, I think its bullshit that the UFC cut Romero because he has a big contract. Its very one-sided that the UFC can cut you whenever they see fit but fighters are stuck fighting forever there. The way I see it, they owe him 3 fights.
I think signing Romero to PFL to Bellator is a high risk low reward kind of thing, so they are stepping away from the idea.

Senior citizens need not fight anymore, especially this one, he just won a 16-27 million dollar payout. time for beach, babes, banging, booze, and barijuana
No one loves old men fighting more than Coker

You clearly have a very limited understanding of lawsuits and specifically, this case. He didn't get shit. In fact, most of these lawsuits where a small company or an individual are sued actually pay. Instead, they declare bankruptcy to get off the hook. Which is exactly what the supplement company Romero sued did. He didn't get anything, the only thing he won was the case.

Rather see him in one anyways

He can crush all the enhanced asians and he can hop on some gear as well

Yoel was technically 1-5 despite fighting close fights with champs. So on paper he could look bad, but releasing him from his contract would free up UFC money (probably wasn't getting another shot anytime soon), Romero would trash any MW division he's signed to. Then UFC MW division looks amazing at the cost of saving money. Plus with Romero in his 40s means he's about to retire anyways, so he's going to be temporary wherever he goes.
Wow just thinking about this was smart business. Although if Bellator could get some fighters to actually beat Romero they would raise their own stock.

If Romero has trouble finding a job it is a bad sign for the current state of MMA

say what you want about Romero, he’s a top fighter & looks the part too

if a fighter like that “doesn’t make sense” for any major org, it’s a bad sign for the sport

Listen, you really think I'm gonna trust you over Stu Hart, who is on roughly a half of your coinage?
I read / did not listen. Check location .. Home of the hit man .. Now take your seat junior. Class begins now

Welcome to the D-D-D-D-D-D-Dungeon Baby!!!!!!

Could you please tell me in what fights was Romero lackluster? I don't remember any.

He had a boring fight with Adesanya,

I swear, Sherdoggers just respond with their "hearts" without thinking sometimes...often...quite often.
