News Bellator, PFL Distance Themselves From Signing Yoel Romero

Lol Bellator just had Melvin Manhoef in a main event yet they have no interest in Romero <45>
In a match they specifically cherry picked to boost their newcomer (UFC scraps). Pick a 5'8" significantly undersized LHW to match against a 6'3" wrestle-heavy fighter who's also a very good sized 205'er.

Bellator will sign Yoel

This is just a negotiating tactic

lol I don't get the Yoel hype. His best day's are behind him. And his last fight really left a sour taste in fans mouths. Not to mention he'll carries a hefty salary. Thanks for the memories Yoel. Go retire or go BKFC.

Anderson Silva vs yoel Romero on Golden Boy promotion, and watch it crush anything bellator does.

Why was Yoel released from his contract though? Can anyone please catch me up

Senior citizens need not fight anymore, especially this one, he just won a 16-27 million dollar payout. time for beach, babes, banging, booze, and barijuana
Just because he won that suit doesnt mean he will actually see a single penny

There’s some juicy matchups for Yoel in Bellator especially if he decides he wants to try his hand at 205.

Bellator have also cut a lot of their aging but well known talent recently and signed more lesser known names. Coker framed it as them looking more to future top talent.
They also lost their big money deal with DAZN so they may not be in a position to throw a lot of money at fighters right now.

Likely the pay isn't worth the return in investment for getting him. Viacom doesn't give them a blank slate, and at his age and the price he's asking and it being the pandemic at the moment. Just may not be worth it for them, and he could retire at any time. It's not as far fetched as may think not wanting to sign him.

lol, same lowballing shit they tried with Silva, Yoel is the biggest free angent ever in the sport, no way they wouldn't be interested, especially PFL, who the fuck do they have at MW? and Mouse vs Yoel would be huge for Bellator, not buying this BS.
Biggest free agent ever????

At least Manhoef is exciting.

Nobody is interested in signing SHIT.

Even UFC are cutting big players because they are running on steam!

Fuck you think shitty organizations like PFL and Bellator has in their pockets

that senior citizen is actually top 5 in his eight class though, can’t say the same for most other guys 40+

coker is full of shit
the buyout from strikeforce showed that if you were too dumb to know that before

It's weird how everyone forgets the garbage fights Yoel has put on.

Coker is a long game guy. There's no long game on Yoel in fight terms. I don't even know if there is a short game either.

Maybe there's an ultra boring dance off with Machida, but otherwise I don't know. 2 fights to the belt he wins the belt he's close to or is 45. Is that good for your organization?

I love Yoel, but from an investment stand point I can see why they are hesitant.
Scott Coker is not a long play guy. That guy is desperate to make a quick buck, no serious promoter would EVER advertise something like this.

I mean, ask yourself: Will Romero fight five more times before he retires? Two fights a year...that means he would be 46 years old (older than Anderson) at the end of that time. Is that a fighter you want to really invest in and pay 150,000 dollars just to show? Yes, he had some great fights...in the past. Now he is old. Very old in MMA years. I think MMA fans are just too sentimental and often unable to comprehend the concept of aging. Add in the fact that Romero has been lackluster in his most recent fights...and these fight orgs might be avoiding him for other reasons.

Jarl
Could you please tell me in what fights was Romero lackluster? I don't remember any.
Romero is probably my favourite fighter ever on a pure entertainment standpoint.

He had a boring fight with Adesanya, the current UFC champ, but it was very competitive, so competitive that Adesanya resorted to kicking Romero front leg and running away the whole fight to win.
Funny enough, it was Adesanya that was limping after the fight, not Romero.

So this guy went from having a competitive fight with the best in the world, Adesanya, to being cut by the UFC because too old.
That is bollocks.

Even if they are bleeding money because of COVID cutting Romero is so dumb on many levels.

They were paying 44 years old Hunt 750k to show, jesus christ, and Hunt was shitting all over the UFC in return.

Ok i see many here being outraged. Bellator refused to sign Yoel for the same reason UFC cut him. His PAY. We all know UFC are cheap fucks so the 350k they paid Romero could be used to fund salaries of 10 newbies.

This is what Bellator Champions received in their last fight ( and don't mention me about sponsors, its been proven time and again that the MMA sponsorship market is dud and fighters aren't exactly making bank)

Mousasi- 200k
Lima- 150k
Bader- 300k
Pitbull- 200k
Rory- 200k

Romero- 350k

Now look at the above salaries and ask yourself if their champions get paid this then do you think a 44yr old Romero would get paid anything above 100k? Why would Bellator even bother offering a fighter 1/4 his previous salary knowing very well he would reject it.?

At the end of the day its all business.
