News Bellator, PFL Distance Themselves From Signing Yoel Romero

Who knows, maybe they're hoping to make another boring match like Mousasi vs Machida 3, and Romero doesn't fit into Bellators plans to stink up the joint.
 
Sucks how the most recent memory of Yoel was a lackluster fight but he also has had plenty of great fights and finishes as well. It’s a recency bias.
 
You would think Bellator would be interested in signing the actual real middleweight champ (the people's champ)
 
Yoel is a true og athlete, entertaining with a fanbase he deserves a big payday, + didnt he just win a 40 million dollars lawsuit ? He doesnt need to beg them fuck these guys
 
I can see the reasoning behind it for Bellator. Having a guy in his mid 40s come in and beat everyone might not be good long term and as much as I love him he's not the kind of guy who'll bring loads of casual fans over.


PFL don't even have a MW division.
 
Given that Bellator recently had their own exodus of fighters (among those the James Gallagher killer) my guess is that they're not exactly in the financial position to break the bank for Romero, who might even retire in the coming years.

Back when Coker first took the helm he blew money on Koscheck trying to set up a rematch with Daley by first giving him a can, and that backfired hard with a first round TKO loss for Josh that sealed his career. Obviously Romero is nowhere near as shot as Josh was, but wasting money on old, but very recognizable, fighters might not be in the plans for a while.

Think they dont want to be looked as a UFC rejects promotion lol unless they get really good still in prime talent like Rory, Mousasi
 
The pandemic has hurt the bottom line of all MMA orgs – especially the ones without the TV deal that the UFC has. Yoel comes with a hefty price tag and a limited amount of time to truly monetize what he brings to the table.

It's a tough situation to be in all the way around. The smaller orgs are probably just hanging on. The UFC has adopted the contender series to try and cycle younger, cheaper talent in. Guys like Yoel get the short end of the stick. Not just because of his age and price tag but also because he's had multiple title shots and lost them all. Even though all of those fights were razor close and could have gone the other way, the bottom line is they didn't and it makes it difficult to give him another shot. That means the UFC has a guy that could potentially pick off every title contender but giving him another title shot would be a hard sell.
Ironically, if Yoel was just a tiny bit worse and a bit cheaper, he could be a gatekeeper. Someone that would prove the young talent was ready for the next step up. As it stands,Yoel is too good for that. He would beat almost any up and coming talent and ruin their momentum and marketability, all while being unable to get another title shot himself.

Hopefully, some of the other orgs are in good enough financial shape to pick him up. Would love to see him vs TRT Vitor in One.

Yoel has lost to fighters from Kavkaz throughout his whole wrestling career, he has PTSD going against those guys.

You think there’s an org that will pay romero more than bellator?
Askren was defending undefeated bellator champ. He was getting paid 50k to show up in one fc.
 
Moose vs Romero next? Or will Romero go back to LHW?

Bellator and PFL must be out of money. Everyone should just go to one or rizin
